DETROIT (WWJ) – Detroit police are working to identify 10 or 12 people behind a vigilante mob attack that left a 54-year-old man clinging to life after he allegedly struck a child who had darted into the street.
As first reported by WWJ Newsradio 950, an 11-year-old boy suffered a broken leg when he was hit by a pickup truck after he walked into the street near Morang and Cadieux. When the driver got out of his car to check on the boy, about a dozen men on the scene attacked him, beating him unconscious, according to police.

Driver is described in most media accounts as “suburban” and “pickup driving”. He is ID’d as being white by a few outlets. I think the huffypost has a picture of him.

Cripplecreek, I respect your judgment and your position as being a Michigan resident and therefore, much more familiar than I with these kinds of matters, but here I disagree. Any white man would have received this kind of treatment but I don’t think a black man would. Just my perception.

I grew up in a poor white area neighboring a poor black area and learned early on to be forever vigilant. I may survived to adulthood thanks only to the efforts of an armed white man that rescued my 13-year old hiney from a group of approximately 75 black yutes (Tiggers).
Young black males often jump in front of cars driven by Whites just to cause mayhem - sometimes they misjudge.

I lived in that neighborhood, right down the street from Finney HS at Cadieux and Chandler Park. This was 25 years ago. It wasn’t bad then, but you’d never catch me in that neighborhood now. It’s completely turned over. It’s sad what’s happened to Detroit.

Tough one and each situation is obviously unique. As they say, when seconds count, emergency services are minutes (and longer) away from arriving. It also depends on the environment i.e. in this case, in order to drive away the driver might have had to plow through a crowd. Sounds like a no-win situation to me.

And if a kid stepped in front of you and you stopped to give him aid in this circumstance, you would be a brave non-racist on life support in the hospital. I doubt these feral urbanites would have given much thought to your mental state as they beat you to within inches of your life.
