Since 1994, when Harris first began polling a large sample (2,311 this year) of Americans with the simple question "Who is your favorite movie star?", only one actor has made the top ten every year and only one actor has made it posthumously: John Wayne. In 2014, The Duke did it again, placing 7th -- holding the same spot he held last year.

Are we looking at American actors, or international as well?
Love that movie. Also McLintock.
You’ve listed some great names.
Some of my favs, in no particular order, are:
Sir Laurence Olivier
Albert Finney
Judi Dench
Charlton Heston
Mel Gibson
Maureen O’Hara
Emma Thompson
Julie Andrews
Helena Bonham Carter
Peter O’Toole
Richard Harris
I must admit that I hate McClintock. I did not like the way in which Maureen O’Hara was treated towards the end of the film, which included stripping the lady of her dress, and spanking her.
"Well come see a fat old man sometime !!!"
I must tell you that I do feel a bit nostalgic and sentimental whenever I watch that scene. It brings a tear to my eye.
“Fill yours hands!, you sons......!”
Gets me fired up every time.
Absolutely
James Stewart, anyone? ? ?
bold talk for a one-eyed fatman!
Wayne considered “Red River” as his best film. He also used the Red River D brand as his own brand and also had that brand on his belt buckle which he was usually filmed wearing.
I personally think “The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance” was his best. Also liked “The Quiet Man”.
We love Jimmy Stewart. An actor with class and true talent.
jealous Duke lover here
Mclintock is such a classic. The mud fight with he and Maureen still makes me laugh out loud
Backward. I always go backward when I’m backin’ away.
You apparently have never seen The Quiet Man
Those are classics.
Perhaps he’s seen a broken bed? :^)
John Wayne didn’t come to own his own category of actor greatness by simply being himself, even the liberal Hollywood world is starting to recognize his acting.
And how about this line
“The war wagon is coming. Women and children better stay behind”
