He was a truck driver who saw no combat.
I wouldn't be surprised. Back in the late 70s, early 80s, I helped start my local Vietnam Veterans of America ... but quit after 6 months.
Turned out, the guys who couldn't hold jobs, did the most complaining, had the worst marriages, were most irresponsible, laziest, etc., were never in country.
But they could still blame VN for their problems, even if it was only by proxy.

That’s sort of true in every profession, isn’t it? The biggest complainers are generally the laziest.
