I was a very young mother at the time, and remember the shock to my sense of reality, by not only Kent State, but all the other horrible acts committed by my peers.
And, you are right that these evil self-centered fools decided to infiltrate and take over all of our institutions (even the girl scouts, for heaven’s sake).
My husband was teaching at SUNY-Buffalo in the early 70s, and we were ostracized by the younger fellow professors because we didn’t smoke pot, and didn’t want to take part in demonstrations and civil disobedience.
Sometimes I wonder why we stood by and watched the mayhem in silence. My guess is that we just couldn’t believe it, and assumed that it was a temporary aberration.
We guessed wrong.
I remember you being somewhat worried about Dad making it home from work unscathed by the violence taking place on campus when the protesters took over the administration buildings, etc.
