Kab, I agree completely that legalizing their presence is the LAST thing we should be doing. Absolutely agreed. But in chastising firebrand, I think you're WAY off base. Then again, you live in Virginia. I live in California and always have, with lots and lots of lovely Mexicans, for almost 57 years. I've worked side-by-side with many illegals; I have even helped hide one from the INS. WHY? Because he was a better co-worker, more honest, and a hell of a lot more industrious, than the lop-headed entitlement-minded "legal" teenager who would have taken his place.

Your use of the word Gestapo is particularly offensive. WRONG. It is particularly accurate. Like I say, I live and work here in the middle of it. You in Virginia can pretend that Gestapo-type tactics wouldn't result and cry about "emotion laden pejoratives"; from Ivory Towers, it looks just that way, but here on the front lines, we know that firebrand is right.

No one is advocating rounding up the illegals and putting them on rail cars ... It sure sounds that way to me, and in that, I'll admit I may be misjudging you. I sure as hell HOPE that no one is advocating "rounding up the illegals." If they are, I invite THEM to come do it themselves and leave me out of it.

There are other ways to deal with illegal immigrants. Kabar, EVERYONE, the minimum wage in the U.S. for an unskilled teenager's job, is the equivalent of a very solid respectable middle-class wage in Mexico, where a lot of people are so poor they live in cardboard box villages. HELLO?

Of course a hard-working Mexican with a hungry family is going to come up here, legal or not, and be an VERY good employee in a minimum wage job, and not just the employer, but fellow employees will PREFER him over the "legal" teenager who shows up only about half the time, has a crappy work ethic, and thinks he's not paid enough.

GET RID OF THE MINIMUM WAGE, and then get rid of welfare entitlements for "minority" immigrants, and watch illegal immigrants go back home.

Until then, understand that "deportation" is a recipe for unrest and anger.

I live in Fairfax County, Virginia where one in three is foreign born. Virginia has almost one million immigrants. In terms of numbers, it has the 9th highest number of immigrants among the states. There is a reason why VA is purple turning blue. We are not quite CA, but we are getting there.

Aiding and abetting illegal aliens is a federal crime. You can rationalize it any way you want, but helping them avoid the consequences of their crimes is not anything to brag about or be proud of.

You don't seem to realize that immigration, legal and illegal, is not confined to the border states. Every state is becoming a border state with 45 million foreign born in this country. In 1970, one in 21 was foreign born; today it is one in 8 the highest it has been in 90 years; and within a decade it will be one in 7, the highest in our history. The one in three ratio in Fairfax County is the same as the state of CA. I am on the front lines. In 1990 only 15% of Fairfax County was foreign born.

Calling people Gestapo who want to aid law enforcement in tracking down and deporting criminals is just WRONG period. The illegal aliens are criminals. We have had since 9/11 over 50,000 Americans murdered by criminal aliens. There are 25,000 criminal aliens in US jails who committed murder.

It sure sounds that way to me, and in that, I'll admit I may be misjudging you. I sure as hell HOPE that no one is advocating "rounding up the illegals." If they are, I invite THEM to come do it themselves and leave me out of it.

No one is suggesting mass deportation given the impracticality of doing it. However, attrition thru enforcement works. We need to enforce our laws. Are you against the Rule of Law including those that require deportation?

The unemployment rate in Mexico is lower than in the US. I have been to Mexico and to Bangladesh. Mexico is far better off. Does their economic condition give them the right to violate our sovereignty and many other US laws? Do you know what Mexico does with illegal aliens?

Of course a hard-working Mexican with a hungry family is going to come up here, legal or not, and be an VERY good employee in a minimum wage job, and not just the employer, but fellow employees will PREFER him over the "legal" teenager who shows up only about half the time, has a crappy work ethic, and thinks he's not paid enough.

You are conflating two different issues. First, not all illegal aliens are Mexicans. And all Mexicans are not hard working. They are using welfare to a higher degree than the native born. And many of them belong to gangs and are part of drug trafficking.

Second, putting down American workers to justify hiring illegal aliens is just part of the BS propaganda put out by the pro-amnesty crowd. Doing jobs Americans won't do is just a plain lie.

Are There Really Jobs Americans Won’t Do? A detailed look at immigrant and native employment across occupations

Of the 472 civilian occupations, only six are majority immigrant (legal and illegal). These six occupations account for 1 percent of the total U.S. workforce. Moreover, native-born Americans still comprise 46 percent of workers even in these occupations.

Many jobs often thought to be overwhelmingly immigrant (legal and illegal) are in fact majority native-born:

Maids and housekeepers: 51 percent native-born

Taxi drivers and chauffeurs: 58 percent native-born

Butchers and meat processors: 63 percent native-born

Grounds maintenance workers: 64 percent native-born

Construction laborers: 66 percent native-born

Porters, bellhops, and concierges: 72 percent native-born

Janitors: 73 percent native-born

GET RID OF THE MINIMUM WAGE, and then get rid of welfare entitlements for "minority" immigrants, and watch illegal immigrants go back home.

LOL. Yeah, right. And exactly how would you do this? Illegal aliens are not entitled to federal welfare payments except in liberal sh#tholes like CA. If you are on the front lines, why don't you start in CA and limit benefits for illegal aliens. And lets stop having sanctuary cities that refuse to cooperate with federal officials on the enforcement of immigration laws.

Until then, understand that "deportation" is a recipe for unrest and anger.

Stop all deportation? You have gone off the deep end.
