Will a warming world eventually kill off roe deer in France?
That question is being raised in light of new research indicating that the animals are having a hard time adapting to climate change.
In a study published Tuesday in the open-access journal PLOS Biology, researchers tracked the births and subsequent survival of roe deer fawns in France's Champagne region.
They noted that spring vegetation on which the adult deer depend for food was starting to flourish two weeks earlier that it did nearly three decades ago, due to gradual warming. But although spring was arriving earlier, the animals' birth season stayed the same, failing to keep pace with the changing temperatures.

:-) Snicker.
This whole article is a crock given that they are postulating that earlier greening, i.e. more food sooner is negatively affecting their fawn survival, while admitting that the actual population had consistent positive growth rates for the entire 27 years of the study.
But because the growth rate declined (while still remaining positive) 6% over that time its because of global warming. Not something more obvious like IDK, increased competition for food sources due to increased demand from the increased population.
The stupid agenda is strong in this one.
Last weekend he pinged me telling me I worked for DU or Hillary or something as idiotic as that, then a few pings later he asks me why I am pinging him on the same thread.

They didn’t. All life on earth is dead from the occasional passing cloud.
If you read the companion letter the data was derived from an “enclosed forest” - the only way they can get accurate numbers. It’s an established fact that when deer populations reach a certain level of overcrowding they suffer precipitous declines. Presumably as they approach that maximum the rate of growth declines and then goes negative. How do they know that the deer population is not reaching its maximum level?
Stock up on lightbulbs. the U.S. government has banned lighbulbs because they say lightbulbs are causing global warming. global warming is a hoax that democrats created to grow government/socialism
Well, that, and GE had a new patent for a replacement.
Actually, generally studies suggest that a warmer planet is a wetter planet. Water plus CO2 is great for plant growth, and for the animals that follow.
In the 90s, there was a study by the Smithsonian, where they compared wild areas with deer and where deer were blocked out (West Virginia, I think). They found that deer reduce the number of small mammals and birds each by about 90%.
The study also noted that the are places where there has been no young tree growth in over 20 years as the deer eat all the saplings. Deer also don’t really wander far until they hit overpopulation and move to find food.
Deer? LOL. Deer are one of the most adaptable animals in the world, except when it comes to dodging cars.
YOU BASTARDS!!!
They run around our streets and rip up our plants at night, in huge groups.
When no-ones watching the be-be gun is fun to play with.
Plenty of Lyme disease here too.
I'll take "normal and not meaningful" for $500...
The only real deer predator left in most of our country is the motor vehicle.

Thanks for bringing that up; I missed it.
But in many ways no area of Europe is “natural” in the sense of B4 the rise of Europe’s human population and the spread of human habitation across all of Europe. Most deer populations in Europe are I imagine “enclaves” of limited size and restricted in ability to migrate from one area to another. Those restrictions alone, as you point out, would restrict deer population growth and make for reduced populations at times.
