WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A massive magnitude 8.0 earthquake on Tuesday off the coast of Chile, near the mining port of Iquique, sparked a tsunami warning for all of Latin America's Pacific coast, the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said.
"An earthquake of this size has the potential to generate a destructive tsunami that can strike coastlines near the epicenter within minutes and more distant coastlines within hours," it said.

Our desire for a limited unobtrusive government with low taxes and few regulations is somehow seen as racist sexist bigoted and homophobic. It is seen as insensitive and uncaring.
And your post at #4 above does what, exactly, to disprove that view when people drop by FR?
Posts like the one you made at 4 not only embarrass FR but drive wedges between conservatives. Being from New England I know I've had my fill of posts wishing torrents of evil on everyone in the northeast. I'm not a liberal, but many FReepers find me and my conservative family members easily expendable in their wishes for disaster du jour on my area of our nation.

we can just vision Nancy Pelosi tomorrow if the waves crash into San Fransisco: Pelosi: Late last night, our coast line was hit by a 7.1 Million Foot high Tidal Wave that was caused by Republicans who want to repeal Obama-Care.

I was off by one zero. My apologies. And I did know better. I knew you were rather close. We’re in the Black Hills......still too close if it goes.

No, dude. Just damn. Go away, seriously.

A significant tsunami was generated. It would have already hit shore I think, at the closest points. Damage will depend greatly I suppose on the shape and topology of the shoreline.
Prayers up.

Every 600,000 years...and it has been 640,000 years. Off by a factor of 10 years. We're still 40,000 years late.
Disagree. I was told it was due every 600 million years and it has now been 640 million years. We're still 40 million years late.

I’m 50 miles north of Yellowstone. We’ve had a rough winter, but if the caldera blows, won’t be any need to sweat the weather.

Patagonia isn't 5,400 miles from central Chile... maybe they meant 540 miles.

Stepping in it is one thing. Many of us have done that. The awful part is when it tries to explain why, if examined further, stepping in it was a great idea.
To: DuncanWaring
Thanks. I’ll try that in the future before I put my foot in my mouth again.
