The United States and Russia have failed to reach a deal on Ukraine but Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov says talks in Paris with US Secretary of State John Kerry have been "constructive" and will continue.
After four hours of discussions on Sunday, Lavrov said the two parties had presented their plans for a de-escalation of the crisis but did not agree on what had caused it. He reiterated Russia's belief that federalism in Ukraine would be key to finding a solution.
US Secretary of State John Kerry called on Russia to pull back its forces from the borders of Ukraine, and said that any talks on the country's future must include Kiev's leaders.
"We will not accept a path forward where the legitimate govern of Ukraine is not at the table. This principle is clear. No decisions about Ukraine without Ukraine," Kerry told reporters after almost four hours of talks in Paris with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.
He added "any real progress in Ukraine must include a pullback of the very large russian force that is currently massing along Ukraine's borders."
...unexpectedly...
Very odd considering that Obama told us that Russia was acting out of weakness.
Why don’t they just hit the “RESET” button Slick Willie’s wife gave them as a present?
Kerry: You should leave Crimea. It’s really not nice, and as we’ve said, that’s not how things are done in the 21st Century. Besides, we’ve started a Twitter campaign, #unitedforukraine.
Lavrov: Ha Ha. No.
End of meeting.
I bet the Russian luncheon menu was roasted Unicorn in Rainbow sauce.
I bet you need to lose that font. It doesn’t wrap to the page. :-)
I guess John Kerry told Lavrov,Obama will not be able to get rid of all our Nuclear weapons and our missle defense shield by next weekend it will take until April at least,so Lavrov said ok I will tell Vladimir and get back to you
If by some chance he Ukraine got the Crimea peninsula back, I wonder if the upcoming election would then be tilted in favor of another Russian backed leader?
Be careful what you wish for Ukrainians and embrace the IMF (cough) loans.
I’m never happier with this administration than during these glorious times when they fail to reach a deal to sell us out. I’m sure they’ll be back at it, trying to give even more away shortly, but for now...
According to the article the reason there was no deal was because Kerry refused to make a deal becuse Ukraine was not a party to it. That’s what the article says. So that is not a sell out. As to what happens later, who knows?
