SAUKVILLE Representative Duey Stroebel (R-Saukville, 60th District), told WisPolitics on Thursday that he will be making a decision by April 7th on whether to challenge Congressman Tom Petri (R-Wisconsin, 6th District) for the Republican nomination in the 6th Congressional District. In an e-mail sent to WisPolitics, Stroebel said: The 6th Congressional District needs strong, dynamic, common sense conservative leadership that is firmly rooted in the community. I believe I can provide that leadership, and know regardless of my final decision that we need more Wisconsin ideas in Washington. It is my intent to arrive at a decision no later than Monday April 7th.
Wisconsin Election Watch first reported on March 21st about Stroebel mounting a potential primary challenge against Congressman Petri. He told us that he was considering a primary challenge against Petri after being approached by conservative activists in the District.
Congressman Petri has been under the weight of ethics issues this year. On February 11th, USA Today first reported of Petris ethics issues when Public Citizen demanded an investigation of the Congressman over his stock holdings in Oshkosh Corporation. They accused the Congressman of having a obvious conflict of interest because he pushed the Pentagon to retain a $3 billion dollar contract for Oshkosh Corporation while holding shares of stock. On February 18th, Petri asked the House Ethics Committee to do a review on his stock holdings.
Petri was first elected to Congress in 1979 in a special election after the death of former Congressman William Stieger. He has been re-elected 17 times by the voters of the 6th Congressional District since 1980. The 6th Congressional District is located in Eastern Wisconsin. The District includes all or portions of Columbia, Dodge, Fond du Lac, Green Lake, Manitowoc, Marquette, Milwaukee, Ozaukee, Sheboygan, Waushara, and Winnebago Counties. Major cities in the district include Beaver Dam, Oshkosh, Fond du Lac, Manitowoc, Mequon, and Sheboygan.
Duey Stroebel is a good conservative. He used to be my Assemblyman until they changed the districts about 2 years ago.
FReep Mail me if you want on, or off, this Wisconsin interest ping list.
Just an aside: I can’t believe that Petri even has stock holdings. The last time he appeared over here (at a Lincoln Day Brunch) his shirt cuffs were actually ragged.
It’s time for new blood. Sensenbrenner is the worst of the bunch that needs to go from WI.
You’ll get no argument from me on Sensenbrenner. He’s a nasty blowhard.
Hope Stroebel will do it. Time for new blood.
Republican Main Street should be Moderate Democrat Main Street.
Tom Petri 223,460 62%
Joe Kallas 135,921 38%
Petri easily defeated tea party candidate Lauren Stephens in the August 2012 GOP primary. Petri had a huge financial advantage over Stephens _ $930,000 to $6,000 through July. He faces a rematch with Democrat Joe Kallas, whom he defeated in 2010 with 70 percent of the vote, in the November 2012 general election.--WSJ
He seems to really like his sinecure—he’s no Trey Gowdy.
It's a disguise. His shoes $3.00 wingtips. Although not as wealthy as Issa, he's in the top 25 in the House.
This clown has been in office since Jimmah Carter. Why can’t politicians have the foresight to just hang it up and let new people run? The Framers never intended for people to hold office for decades. I hope Petri loses, just another GOPe statist.
