LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) A 10-year-old Panorama City girl got her prayers answered Saturday during an emotional reunion at LAX with her dad.
The girl, Jersey Vargas, had gone to the Vatican with a group who met with the Pope hoping to get the pontiff to speak to President Obama to move on immigration reform.
Her father, Mario Vargas-Lopez, had been held in a Louisiana detention facility. Hes an undocumented immigrant who was in custody in Tennessee for a DUI since last September.
Before Jersey left with the delegation, she told Associated Press, in Spanish, that her big wish was for her dad to come home. A relative saw Jersey on TV making her plea to the pontiff and helped with his $5,000 bond, according to AP.
Brittney Hopper, reporting for KCAL9, was at LAX Saturday for the emotional reunion between father and daughter.
It was very emotional, Hopper reported, lots of crying, lots of hugging.
Their reunion was two years in the making. Prior to being detained, he went to Tennessee to work and send money back to the family in California.
It was the best thing ever, Jersey said, choking back tears, I didnt celebrate my birthdays because my dad wasnt with me. Ive been waiting for him.
No one thought the little girl would actually get to speak with the Pope. Two days later, Pope Francis met with President Obama for the first time. And one day after that, Vargas was released from federal custody.
Today Jersey flew into LAX from Rome.
I dont have the words to describe of the actions that she was able to do, Vargas-Lopez said, through an interpreter.
His immigration status is still up in the air. But, for now, at least he is out.
I feel very proud because I had been fighting for him for a very long time, said Jersey.
The little girl has big ambitions she told Hopper she hopes to get into politics one day so she can fight for immigration issues.
This little boy did not get a reunion with his father at the airport
Boy, 3, killed after ‘drunk driving illegal immigrant with no insurance slammed into family’s vehicle leaving them unable to pay for funeral’
Zane Thurber, who was strapped into his car-seat in the back of his dad Matt’s Subaru, died instantly in the collision that occurred at a Taylorsville, Utah, intersection Saturday night
Witnesses said Manuel de Jesus Guinea, 55, from El Salvador, was driving at about 70 mph shortly before he allegedly slammed into the Thurbers
He allegedly ‘smelled like a bar’ as he attempted to blend in with the crowd until onlookers held him and waited for officers to arrive
He was booked on suspicion of automobile homicide and driving under the influence
Because of the question mark over his insurance, relatives set up a fund at YouCaring.com, where more than $22,000 has already been raised
It’s amasing just how suttle mac daddies sock puppets are as his handlers, this release is so unbelievable mind numbingly stupid that it leaves me speechless.
The only thing missing is numerous cameras flashing and mac daddy throwing his arms around and kissing him on the cheek or a least somewhere.
Wow, just wow.
A Passport, a European trip, flying to Italy to meet personally with her church’s Pope, and only 10 years old.
Ahhhh, the humble struggles of the poor and powerless.
Bingo!
The whole thing stinks.
Typical of these generations.
ME ME ME ME ME.........
And all this reuning happens with the speed of light. Never going to believe it!!!!
This has state dept deal smell all over it!
Deport the whole damned lot of them back to the Mex hellhole!
my thoughts exactly, take illegal drunk daddy and crumb snatcher/ankle biter and reunite them on the back side of Mexico... At least then it will take a while for them to make it back to the border.. Would be karma if drunk daddy got hit by a drunk legal on his way back...
Yes, how long until this criminal prevents some other little girl of ever seeing her daddy again, because he’s been killed by a drunk illegal alien?
AND the mutt in the White House has done what for Justina held captive by the state of MA???? It’s my understanding that family is also Catholic.. They haven’t made their pleas to the right people I guess, OR they just aren’t the right race....
How was he able to board an airline being able flying back to Calif ? It’s bad enough he was caught and arrested for DUI.. He was also driving without license/insurance and used some type of fraudulent documents to have employment.I wonder what the Pope said when it came time to go over this case concerning the father aside from being out that night, during this night he is arrested for drunk driving, that he also was committing some further crimes besides the charge of drunk driving.
