I know I’m not “mis-imagining” when I say, I remember when Chris Matthews was actually praised here on FR for his comments during the Clintoon impeachment. And even prior. Yes, he actually used to be a “lib with some sense.”

No, Christ Matthews just looks like that high school kid we all knew, who was from a relatively good family and with relatively good grades, who would say or do anything to stay in the good graces of the “cool” kids because he didn’t think too highly of himself without outside affirmation. His self identity is entirely bound up in his acceptance by the the “cool” kids. Now, after many years of being patted on the head by the “cool” kids, he actually thinks quite well of himself even when there is no basis for it. The reality of his situation is, actually, kind of pitiful. And he is the only one who cannot see it.
