A bolt of lightning blasted a hole through the roof of a church as a fierce squall blew through a Green Lake neighborhood Saturday afternoon, fire officials said.
Firefighters responded to the scene, Bethany Community Church in the 1100 block of North 80th Street, at about 4:30 p.m. after receiving a report that a building had been struck by lightning.
Crews at the scene found a 2-foot-by-4-foot hole in the church's roof, directly above the altar. The force of the strike blew the tiles off the roof at the impact site and knocked out electrical power to the church.
A Seattle Fire Department spokesperson said people were in the church when the lightning struck, but none of them were injured.
The lightning did not appear to spark a fire, but crews are checking the building with thermal imaging equipment to make certain there are no hidden hot spots.
You think maybe God has had enough of mankind and its sinfulness?
Is this a liberal church?
Na.
It would be interesting if we found out that the “people (who) were in the church” belonged to a certain protected minority who were having a state-sanctioned ‘wedding’, but I have no specific reason to believe that was the case.
I was really confused for a moment because of course there were people in the church. That's the definition. Then I remembered that most people think the building IS the church.
Nope => http://www.churchbcc.org/
Probably just coincidence tho I will admit I wondered when all those people in Jonestown Guyana committed suicide.
It got my attention when I saw video of the Rev. Jones stomping on a Bible at “The People’s Temple” in San Francisco.
It appears to be surprisingly traditional for that neighborhood (I lived there while going to UW).
What do you suppose he is doing now? :-)
I could hazard a guess but that is something only God can know.
There are reports of lightning strikes in the past on apostate churches, including our own Cathedral of Saint John the Divine.
True, but He said we would know them by their fruits, so it's not looking good.
If I was one of his loved ones I would be very uneasy about his soul.
Disasters can play a number of roles in God’s plans. It doesn’t necessarily mean He is angry at that church. Sometimes it is a Job-like scenario where Satan has wagered that believers will crumble under satanic stress, and God disagrees.
Raging at God to all eternity?
Yes, but it is settled forever now.
I would suspect so. IMHO, I think that is what the gnashing of teeth means. It does not have to be that way. He provided a way.
Did you actually peruse the site you offered? http://www.churchbcc.org/ I clicked on several links. One link connected me to an article on World Vision (that just had to change its course on same sex marriage because of what would be a financial fallout.) Click on the associated links. The church seems to be more about saving people out of poverty than the Gospel and Jesus dying on the Cross, shedding His Blood to save us from our sins. We should all be about helping people in poverty. Maybe you have a different definition of liberal church.
Especially in the Seattle area...
