We felt that one. House moving side to side. I'm sure someone will have more detail. USGS reports 5.4 near La Habra (Los Angeles area).
Welcome aboard Flagpole. My wife and son live in Downey; she called me about an hour or so ago and told me about it, says it shook about 20 or 30 seconds pretty good then rolled for a few more.
I was still working down there for the Whittier quake and the Northridge quake, retired 3 years ago and now I am up here on the farm in Northern Ca. Commute back down there every few months to see my Babe and do all the honey do’s she accumulates for me on the house down there.
She’s still to young to retire yet, so I get to do all the work up here then go back down and do all the work down there.
Its a great life, except for the damn 13 hour commute.
I think they can read. But they no habla ingles. Another sign I saw that puzzled ME was when we had some really high winds and all these little brown kids were holding down trailers and I thought WTF? But then I realized they were anchor babies.
ANCHOR BABIES groan!!
broken water main at Lambert and Imperial Hwy area, some residential gas lines reportedly broken in LA, may be some isolated fires ? Disneyland evacuated as a precaution - nothing wrong just standard operating procedure at Disney...other news developing
Our windchimes are severe storm detectors. Stay safe.
Wow
yeah huh
I am going to bed. You sleep well too, HiTech RedNeck.
The epicenter is three blocks from my home in East LH.
I've walked past that many times.
I’m betting the first mention of it on FR was at 9:12:13 PM.
I believe something like half of them died on the lower level of that apartment building that pancaked down into the garage.
Some of us had to wait three minutes and 27 seconds before the quake made it to our part of So Cal before we could post anything.
Felt a slight jolt followed by a rolling motion for a few seconds. Here in the pass area of the I E.
It turns out that 9;12 was well behind other posts, I just checked.
Maybe this librel rat jumped to hard.
“..... other news developing.”
Keep safe, all y’all!
Blueplum,
give updates on this when you can, not sure how close you were.
Also about the “other news developing”.
I passed do about an hour and a half ago.
Thanks!.
There’s been 67+ afterquakes of mostly mag. 1’s and 2’s in a swarming pattern around LaHabra since the main 5.1, although a few are showing up southeast of me in the Salton Sea area - the next 24 hours will be telling. Japan is having a few significant offshore shakers, too, if that means anything.
A car was turned over by what seems to be a minor rockslide in Carbon Canyon area - no fatality, thank goodness. No word if there’s any further danger of instability in the area - probably not.
sac bee has a story up http://www.sacbee.com/2014/03/28/6277939/magnitude-51-earthquake-shakes.html
LA times has a story up also, pretty much the same as the Bee so far.
