There was an artwork of Jesus on a crucifix submerged in the artist’s urine. Obviously that was “inspired” by the story of Jesus, but the spirit involved was antichrist. Knowing the Bible, I know that by-and-large God doesn’t care about us being entertained, or about so-called “great art.” When the disciples tried to call Jesus’ attention to the great artwork of the Temple, Jesus immediately told them that one day not a stone would remain of it. And Jesus and the New Testament writers often tell us to beware. Paul said he warned his flock day and night with tears. There are real spiritual dangers here. As Christians, can we truthfully say that today’s entertainment isn’t immoral, or that it isn’t spiritually harmful to people, or that God doesn’t care about it being immoral or the spiritual harm it’s doing?

I don’t go to the movies to be inspired by God. I go to the movies to be entertained. When I want to learn about God I read the Bible and go to Mass to worship him.

The God who made us can certainly fulfill us in every way. I actually have a bachelor’s degree in English from a university, and like Paul in his life as a Pharisee, I see it all now as the rubbish it is. And man’s made-up stories are really even far worse, but out of Hell itself. God had His Son walking this earth, and wherever His Son is today in my life is where I want to be. That truly satisfying world of Heaven God has given us here, although here it also comes with sorrows, pain and suffering. Yet it is so wonderful that it far more than compensates for our troubles here.
