After the election and reelection of Obama, Democrats developed a sense of having a political tide on their side. This led many of them to throw caution and restraint aside and to grab for even the illicit rewards of political power. Yet tides shift, and with the GOP in control of the House and more state governments, Obamacare cratering, and a Republican tide in the offing for 2014, for career reasons, few prosecutors want it to be said that they took a pass for political reasons when there was proof that a Democratic official had strayed.
