Oriental carp.

My first thought is chilies (Szechuan) and bean sprouts (Cantonese) in a soy sauce base.

Mm-mm-mm.

Rename it the “Leland Yee carp.” He was trying to foment an invasion, so it fits.

The troublesome fish currently known as Asian carp may get a new name in Minnesota over concern that the current one casts people from Asian cultures in a negative light. “

There really is no hope for us.

Ya they’re edible, but cannot hold a candle to a Walleye.

European carp have been here awhile but haven’t overwhelmed the native species.

But, there’s very little I can do about any of it. Smoked and pressure-cooked, carp can be quite tasty.

IMHO, nothing beats walleye. Crappie are close, but you can’t get a 1” thick fillet off one...

Is it okay if we just call them “undocumented carp”?

one inch fillets off a crappie, we used to come close, we used to get some nice slabs but I doubt there are many 1 1/2 to 2 pound crappies around these days. takes a lot of feed to get that big. I actually liked panfish the best, walleye was always at the top of the menu too, if ya could catch the dang things.

Bottom line: Is the fish edible?

Almost anything is edible if you deep fry it.

They (walleye) are scarce here in KS compared to up nort.

Crappie are fairly plentiful but a big sow is 3/4lb, 15” or a little more.

Had a brother-in-law who was hooked up at Lake Erie and we could not get enough of those 6-8 lb walleye!

I guess “slanty-eyed devil carp” is out of the question.

This is ignorant. While blacks tend to be hypersensitive about such things, other minorities tend to not give two hoots, excepting a very small, radical minority within the minority.

This includes American Indians, several varieties of Asian, an almost meaningless term, as well as several varieties of “Hispanic”, which is almost as meaningless.

Carp just tends to lay there.

Come back after you've hooked one with a fly rod.

It's a bend over, not a nod.

Who would even give a rip? If the fish is originally from Asia, it's an Asian carp.

I'm surprised the Asians are getting into the "sensitivity" racket. Sad.

If they’re like other carp, they’re okay if properly cleaned. There are some tutorials around the Web on how to clean them. Carp are also alright properly prepared and canned.
