Sen. Mitch McConnells (R-Ky.) primary challenger, businessman Matt Bevin, is working to make sure McConnell is forever linked with the wrong team in the states bitter basketball rivalry with Duke University.
Bevin is debuting a new ad during Fridays Kentucky versus Louisville basketball game that features a cutout of the Senate minority leader bedecked in a blue Duke jersey.
Its a reference to a McConnell campaign video launched earlier this week that mistakenly featured a shot of Dukes 2010 championship team celebrating their win a grave error in the Bluegrass State, where Duke has a longstanding rivalry with the University of Kentucky.
When alerted to the mistake, McConnells campaign said it was horrified by it and reworked the video to feature a clip of a Kentucky player, but it ultimately pulled the video offline altogether over concerns the campaign could be violating NCAA rules.
The situation drew coverage from local and national press and even landed a spot on ESPN. Both Bevin and expected Democratic nominee Alison Lundergan Grimes hammered McConnell for the mistake, and Bevins new ad indicates he won't let the issue fade away.
March Madness in Kentucky: Commitment, courage you gotta love it, Bevin says in the ad, adding, even if your team is already out of the tournament, as the Duke-decked McConnell appears on the screen.
Duke was upset in the opening round of the tournament.
Bevin goes on to pledge to fight Obamas liberal policies, and knocks McConnell for voting to fund ObamaCare and cav[ing] on the debt ceiling.
In response, McConnells campaign spokeswoman, Allison Moore, knocked Bevin as misleading, referencing reports that he exaggerated his educational credentials.
"Given Bailout Bevin's undying commitment to a fictional account of himself and Senator McConnell, we actually expected this ad to be about the time he won a national championship back in the '80s as a point guard for the MIT Engineers. Matt 'Bailout' Bevin is not who he says he is, and he's certainly not a Kentucky conservative, she said.

That is just incompetence to the Nth degree, lol. Wow, CBS and ESPN only show that scene about a zillion times.
How out of touch the old man is
I got a mailer from Americans for Tax Reform in the mail today. I couldn’t believe they could get that many lies on one piece of paper. The one that angered me the most was “No one has been a more vigorous defender of the free speech rights of the tea party and taxpayer groups than Senator McConnell”. when the Obama IRS targeted tea party and taxpayer groups, it was Senator McConnell that led the fight to expose and try to end the intimidation and harassment”.
Liar, liar, pants on fire!
That looks like ole Mitch is playing pocket pool.
That’s awesome! Make the most of the ridicule!
Sending Money.
LOL!
Air pocket pool, kinda like playin' air guitar, ain't nothin' there.
Good ad, Bevin sounds like the real deal.
It would appear that we conservatives are learning the fine art of ridicule. Thank you for the lessons demoRATs.
Well McConnell certainly is not personally producing and editing his own ads - his campaign staff was unwise, however, to allow the company to release the ad (or any ad) before they reviewed it. Reportedly when they first took a look at it they were "horrified" - well I imagine so - not only to incorrectly place a different team in Kentucky's place - but Duke of all programs. Bad, bad, bad.
So Bevin is personally appearing in the ad again to attack McConnell. That is really bad. Which is why his campaign is going nowhere. He’s running a race virtually identical to the race the Grayson campaign ran against Rand Paul in their primary in 2010. Grayson even produced an ad connecting Paul to Duke (it was meant to just be a joke and never put on the air - just on YouTube) - he was massacred for it - probably by the same people hailing this ad as a work of genius.
It is usually the outside groups, that do these types of ads, that’s for sure.
Bevin has a lot of ground to make up, and he’s running out of time.
He may well figure at this point that it’s time to try anything.

That could be worth anywhere from 2 to a 5 point percentage gain for Bevin.
Hey, what’s Matt got to lose? Pull out all the stops. I guaran-damn-tee you that if Bevin would have made that mistake, McConnell would not let him forget it right up to Election Day. The fact that major networks are carrying the story, gives it more cred than what happened in the Grayson/Paul campaign.
