Germans (and I might add many other Europeans) have an envy streak that’s hard to understand. In the case of a home burglary, they might assign partial blame on the house owner for having goods that attracted the thief.
An American steps outside his front door & sees that his neighbor has a brand new Mercedes. He thinks, “Wow! Someday I’m going to have a car just like that one!”
A German steps outside his house & sees the same luxury car. He grouses, “What gives him the right to drive such an expensive car?”
