This is interesting. About a year ago, during a sermon, my pastor used the word “gay”. Spontaneously I shouted, “You mean homosexual.”
When I say gay, I mean happy. When I am speaking of men who desire sex with other men I say “homosexual” and regarding women who desire other women I say “lesbian”.
Period.
It drives ‘em nuts on liberal sites.
For what it’s worth, when we are dealing with race, I call blacks “negroes” and whites, “caucasian”. That drives ‘em nuts too.

They don’t care for the term American-African either.
You'd be correct in referring to men or women as homosexual.
Latin, homo means "man" but Greek, homo means "same".
