That old reading style is difficult for me but still...where does it say you can buy or trade black people?

Good Lord, girl, how can you look at those clauses and not see that they permitted and enforced the buying and selling of human beings for labor?

The next order of business after learning to read is learning to interpret the meaning and context of what you are reading. A look at the statistics of the time will show you who the vast majority of the enslaved persons were -- imported Africans.

correction: ethnic Africans (many who remained enslaved were born in America and descended from those who were imported originally)

Be that as it may, the excuse is gone, gone, gone. If black people wallow in self disrespect, whitey cannot force them to do otherwise.
