Oddly enough my own father was a take-it-or-leave-it smoker. One cigarette a week at a “poker party” and never any other time. While my mother habitually smoked herself to death.
I’ve also never found any particular allure in the idea of getting drunk. I think wine tastes nice but getting enough of it to go to my head just makes me feel dull, I get no buzz at all. If every alcohol consumer was like me, nobody’d ever get drunk.
I wish I could say I had that degree of self control in all temptations.
At a younger age the buzz was important. Now I love wine for the flavor, and enjoy beer that was meant to be consumed slowly. Had a bottle of Duvel with dinner tonight and it took me an hour to finish it. Very different from my college days.
