SPRINGFIELD — Illinois Democrats went all-in Thursday with their election-year class warfare theme as Speaker Michael Madigan pitched the idea of asking voters to raise taxes on millionaires, Senate President John Cullerton advanced a minimum-wage increase and Gov. Pat Quinn compared wealthy opponent Bruce Rauner to TV villain Mr. Burns.
The moves continued a Democratic push to highlight income inequity that started Tuesday night before Rauner had even claimed his narrow victory in the Republican primary for governor. Rauner and Republican legislative leaders have countered by accusing Democrats of being tax happy and trying to drive a wedge between the rich and poor.
The newest front in the campaign battle came as Madigan held a rare news conference to announce he wants lawmakers to put a question on the Nov. 4 ballot asking voters whether the state should raise the income tax by 3 percentage points on those who make more than $1 million a year.
The powerful Democratic speaker said the tax hike on millionaires is a way to generate more than $1 billion for elementary and high schools. Madigan based his calculations on what he said are roughly 13,675 millionaires that lived in Illinois in 2011, brushing aside a question about whether such a tax hike might drive them out of the state.
“Well, if they’re in Illinois today, they’re probably so much in love with Illinois that they’re not going to leave,” Madigan said. “We’ve done this because we feel that the millionaires in Illinois are the ones that are better equipped to support education than others.
Rauner, who has disclosed that he made $53 million in 2012, seized on Madigan’s proposal to bolster his campaign theme that Democrat-run Springfield needs a shake up and to remind voters Democrats raised the income-tax rate for everyone

Conservatives just don’t know how to play this gambit against the Democrats: the party of an indentured underclass for the benefit of limousine liberals.
Accuse the Demos of granting 1% status to the civil servants they are beholding to, at the expense of the tax payers and see if they have an answer. State, county and city workers are now the elite corporate bosses of old. The pay gap between the civil service and private sector widens almost monthly.
Marxists rule this damn state, and far too many sheeple are too damn dumb to understand it.
The millionaire count is from 2011. Take a recount, come up with a lower number, and beat the Dems with it.
If Rauner is smart he’ll run an aggressive campaign. Democrats have run Illinois into the ground. If he wins, there’s little he can do, but it’s a start.
Exhibit A on why states like New York, California, and Illinois are leftist, economic wastelands. Taxing the productive citizens to give to a bunch of moochers. Genius idea Illinois. Your road to failure just became much easier.

Sure Dems, kill capitalism, take away incentive to achieve, tax the millionaires to death and help the billionaires like Soros on top of the heap kill the eonomy, and make sure no one has jobs. Way to go!

Their words are killing the higher end of the housing market. People that still have a decent job here and can afford a $800k+ house figure they'll just keep their home in the more modest $350k range and save up their saved tax money for when they do have to escape this Dem hell hole.

The Dems pander to a sin as old as mankind. Then they steal the wealth of productive citizens to buy the votes of the “takers”.
As predicted. A good friend is on Rauners campaign staff running the media strategy. Told him months ago that the Democrats were going to “Mitt Romney him” playing him as a rich guy who doesn’t understand average Illinoisan’s.
My advice to him then was that Rauner should stick it right back to Quinn by being proud of his hard work that resulted in his successful business’ and that Illinois OBVIOUSLY needs someone who understands how the real world works to fix this states problems.
We’ll see soon if my friend took my advice, hope they do, Pat Quinn has been a DISASTER and if he gets re-elected the 66% income tax hike he signed will not only become permanent! the Democrats are already planning on raising it AGAIN and instituting a “millionaires” tax too.
The class warfare BS could be shot down rather easily by simply asking the rats where rich people come from. Surely not even dems are dumb enough to believe someone just goes to bed one night and wakes up a millionaire the next morning.
Of course, when I pointed this out to a bunch of commies on deviantart, I got the most insane of excuses...when they even bothered to make excuses and not just parrot what their gods Lenin and Marx told them to think.
Of course, the lesson will be driven home rather well if they do get their taxes passed and either drain every millionaire of his millions or send them off to more tax-friendly countries.
