A direct rip-off of American designs.

Curious what the large hatch on the superstructure near the stern is for. Loading the helo from the dock?

“The Chinese continue to rapidly build up and modernize their naval forces. “
Yes indeed. By the pics, I see that they no longer tugs to deploy their aircraft carriers. A Great Leap Forward for sure :)

Very impressive vessel to me. Thank you very much for the article and the pictures.

Is it just me though? That 30mm CIWS appears to be in a very good spot as a secondary offensive weapon not just close in weapons support. It would be very good in Pirate suppression as well as Brown water support of vessel interdiction.

You can build ships but it is not so easy to train crews especially carrier crews.

Is it just me, or does that ships design look awfully familiar? (Not a military or navy guy here.....)

I wonder how much of our classified technology went into this one.

They copied the phased array antenna geometry on 45° facets from our Aegis class cruisers and destroyers. Putting them all on the forward superstructure is similar to the Arliegh Burke destroyer class.

They appear to be handling the X-band (or whatever they use) missile guidance differently though.

The advantage the aggressor has, is that they decide when and how to strike.

Thus, they can afford to focus on building their economy and skimp on military, until they actually need the military hardware to attack with.

Almost all ships look the same these days. Only so many ways you can design something. Funny that they use the western numbering on their ships.

Those pixelated uniforms look unnecessary.

What is a “rile?” As in “multi-rile.”

Our navy has blue camos too. Can’t see where they can hide with that color scheme.

China ought to send us all a thank you note, after all we paid for them.

“modernize their naval forces.”

They have the education, training, and motivated population to do it, every bit as much as we do. Worked with a few hundred recently: I think highly of them. In fact, their average technical capability was superior to ours.
