As a Protestant I applaud Donahue’s effort to show just how hypocritical gay activists are.
I question the motives of those critical of Donahue.
Gay organizers of their parade had rules they require participants to follow like the St. Patricks parade. Exposing hypocrisy should be a good thing!

Have you ever entered a group in a parade, of any kind? These info sessions aren’t sensitivity trainings, they are logistical sessions. Things like what time to line up, where to go to check in, etc. I’ve entered groups in many parades (I’ve been on the board of trustees at my synagogue for years, volunteered for many more before that), and these sorts of info sessions have been mandatory for just about every one). Donohue is being disingenuous and trying to save face after they called his bluff.
The devil is in the details but it seems Donahue could have played along. Maybe an evangelical congregation will try it next time, and actually follow through.
