Yeah. Ignore 1933 too. Ignore the murder of many, many millions of people, so-called Kullaks. If you do that, and, if you ignore the horrors inflicted for hundreds of years before the 20th CEN, and if you ignore the post WWII Russian Soviet crimes inflicted on the Ukrainians, you can champion that Putin is the latest swell liberator. Of course, you'd be an ignominious and a philistine. But hey, we why not if you're in to low information propaganda.

1932-33

While Ukrainians were starving, the USSR was exporting grain grown in Ukraine. NKVD (later became KGB) units were sent into Ukraine to confiscate food and patrol fields to make sure no-one “stole” the crops that the USSR was growing for export.

Any Ukrainian, including children, caught taking food from the fields was shot on the spot.

That is why “liberating” was in quotes. They liberated them from the Nazis and immediately annexed them into the Soviet Union. With friends like that who needs enemies.
