Female MPs in Kenya have stormed out of a late-night parliamentary session in a row over the legalisation of polygamy.
The law is intended to bring civil law, where a man is only allowed one wife, into line with customary law, where some cultures allow multiple partners.
But male MPs voted to amend the new marriage bill to allow men to take as many wives as they like without consulting existing spouses.
Traditionally, first wives are supposed to give prior approval.
The women walked out in disgust over the matter.
'This is Africa'
MP Samuel Chepkong'a, who proposed the amendment, said that when a woman got married under customary law, she understood that the marriage was open to polygamy, so no consultation was necessary, Kenya's Daily Nation newspaper reports.
Mohammed Junet, an MP representing a constituency from the western Nyanza province, agreed.
"When you marry an African woman, she must know the second one is on the way and a third wife this is Africa," Kenya's Capital News website quotes him as saying.
Plans to ban the payment of bride prices were dropped - although a person must be 18 to marry and this will apply to all cultures.
Proposals to ensure equal property and inheritance rights were also watered down - a woman will be entitled to 30% of matrimonial property after death or divorce.
Kenya's marriage bill: Specifies that marriage is between a man and a woman, but does not explicitly ban custom of an infertile woman marrying a younger woman.

It’s no doubt the case that these two large newspapers, The Daily Nation and The Standard, have access to a wide range of records and fact-checking resources, particularly those related to their home city of Nairobi (the same city where David was born and died). It’s taking people a while, it appears, to grasp the full significance of having both papers affirm that David Opiya was Ruth’s son and Mark’s brother. Sooner or later it will sink in.
I did a whole lot better than the scenario presented orginally, it was supposed to be an image of a seventy-year old dead 'person' who hadn't been accounted for. I suggested it could have been a young person with their jaw supported to keep it from falling open, which is what is done immediately upon death. Turned out to be a young male with a neckbrace.Big deal.
I made it clear to the freeper who posted that vanity, that showing photographs with the question 'What Do You See?' was going to go nowhere.
So what did you think it was? You must have been on the thread to know about it. Did you immediately identify Puentes, or did you do what the rest of us did, try and work out one step at a time what we might be looking at?
Hey, at least I knew it wasn't someone 70 years old. And so what's the major difference between a photograph of someone sleeping with a neckbrace on, wrapped up like a mummy - and someone who recently died?
I'm all ears.
It will sink in to anyone with enough reading comprehension that the articles you used to spin your scenario and have presented as original material out of Kenya, are nothing but a compiliation of material taken from a number of biographies written by US authors.
Every time you see quotation marks used, it indicates text taken from sourced material. Heck, the ‘authors’ of the pieces you refer to have had the decency to credit where the material came from.
You could save yourself the round trip to Kenya, by going straight to the book reviews. And then you could tell us that every word of ‘Dreams’ and and any number of biographies on the subject at issue, is gospel.
Hey, but you know that wouldn’t work. So you cherry-pick the gossip, present it as factual, supply a few links that don’t work, and presto! You really think that’s how it works?
Seize, I’m surprised at you. Just how diligently have you examined these ‘documents’? Care to put your stamp of GENUINE on all those biographies?
Used to be:
“It’s in the newspaper - it must be true!”
Now it’s:
“I saw it on the internet - it must be true! Plus, I saw in on three different websites!”
(ahem...all from the same book...)
You need to check the thread, Fred. My very first post re: the identity of the person in question was to state decisively that it was Puentes. [Proving again the legal maxim, don’t ask a question unless you already know the answer.]
By contrast, here’s what you said of the photo:
“I think the image of that person on the bed all wrapped up is of a young person who is DECEASED.”
“That person wrapped up sure looks deceased to me, her jaw has been bandaged beneath her chin(ear to ear)to stop her mouth falling open.”
“But there are plenty of images of the photographer on this thread alone. Hes NOT the person wrapped up on the bed.” [Except that...it was. It was Puentes the photographer, that is.]
It’s hard enough to keep one. They’re nuts.
Fred you are spinning insanely. The Standard didn’t quote any of the authors you mention. It simply states that David Opiya Obama-Ndesandjo was born to Ruth and Obama, that Mark was his brother, and that he died in ‘87 in a motorcycle crash.
The other paper, The Daily Nation, uses a variety of sources. However, when it comes to David’s birth, lineage and death, it states these things as fact.
Some are suggesting that the Nairobi newspaper is lying. What is the evidence of that? Also, if they were lying, someone would have spoken up by now. This is the point Mal-Valers simply cannot grasp. If a major newspaper chooses to print an obvious falsehood, someone, and normally many someones, point it out.
None of the material re: David’s birth, life or death is from Dreams. It’s printed as fact in The Daily Nation, and some of it is sourced to Sally Jacobs’ book. The fact that The Daily Nation references Jacobs doesn’t make the material false. It’s simply a feather in her cap, and a nod from those with the most ready and reliable access to birth, divorce & death records, et., that she got it right.
Just think, when they get mad and go home to mother, it could look like the Diaspora...
Billy Jeff was pointing at Helen when he said “I did not have sex with that woman.” Then he curled his finger up and said “Monica Lewinski.”, with that smug ‘I just parsed those words and y’all didn’t even catch it’ smirk on his face.
Oh give it up, the person who posted the vanity was so convinced it was a 70 year old person who had not been accounted for and was dead, I did well to see that it wasn’t. Have you nothing better to do than go back over old garbage?
Go to Kenya like you suggested to me, and interview some people. And have a nice day. Oh, and btw, Bless You.
Oh Fred, you made me laugh. I positively IDed Puentes on the first try, and you positively IDed the image as NOT Puentes. But *I’m* the one who should give it up? Why??? Your comment makes no sense.
And that's why she sat on the UNREDACTED INS file for two years before she published? And that's why you STILL haven't seen the unredacted file, and the ONE item you did see, 'the adoption Memo' truncates the name of the individual who spoke to the Salvation Army?
No further discussion will be forthcoming. I'm pulling the plug. You're so far behind the train came and it's gone.
btw, I need to point out to you that the VAL/MAL scenario to which you and your sidekick continuously refer, was the title of a video compiled by our once upon a time freeper, Polarik. How original is that? Do you have anything that isn't plagiarized?
Meet The Parents....of alias Barack Obama. Black Sunni Muslim father and White Lebanese Christian mother. Born in the ME, raised in Indonesia, became BHO II in 1982.
Your comments on Jacobs are immaterial. The only pertinent info from her—the facts re: David Opiya Obama-Ndesandjo—have been affirmed by The Daily Nation. They were also independently affirmed by The Standard, which didn’t cite Jacobs at all.
The only reason I know about the Mal-Val video is because you posted the link in response to a question as to what YOU believe re: Obama’s parents. Your comments on the subject are therefore non sequiturs.
Ly Nha Ky with the President Barack Obamas brother Mark Obama Ndesandjo
He shows up in some rather rarified locations with some 'very special' people. Scroll through the images, it's a totally different world...
Mr. Sheikh Ahmad Fahad Al-Sabah The royal, Minister of the Energy and Petrolium Ministry of Arap Saudi , Chairman of the Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC), Chairman of Olympic Committee Asia (OCA) had a meeting with the Minister of the Vietnam Culture Sport Tourism Ministry and the Tourism Ambassador Ly Nha Ky as well as senior officials of Vietnam.
PLacemark
I wrote - but he never got a mention in 'Dreams'
What I meant was, as a living person. He was only mentioned in the context that he had already 'died'. In 1984. According to Malik on his website, and in 1987 in various other sources.
But if zero went to Kenya in 1983 as has been reported a number of times, this 'David' would/should still have been alive.
That is an excellent analogy. Except that pigeons aren’t doing it on purpose! They’re just following natural law.
