“Moon of Alabama” was from “The Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny” by Brecht and Weill. Morrison was a big fan of Brecht and Weill, and “People are Strange” was his attempt to write a modern tune in their style. It not only sounds like the kind of twisted Brecht-Weill tune they would have written in the Twenties, but it translates quite nicely into German.

Thanks. The influences the Doors brought into their work is incredible for a rock band. It’s a good thing we have the Internet to learn about them. I’m still learning.
