(CNSNews.com) Senator Ted Cruz (R-Tex.), a potential presidential contender in 2016, said the Republican Party needs a big tent that embraces centuries-old American values to succeed, adding that the GOP should continue to defend life and that we should continue to defend traditional marriage.
Cruz made his remarks during a Mar. 18 interview with the Des Moines Register, where he was asked about Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.), who recently said that for the Republican Party to grow and recruit more young people, it needed to agree to disagree on social issues, specifically homosexual marriage.
Cruz was asked whether he agreed with Sen. Pauls view. The senator from Texas said, Look, I am a conservative. Im a fiscal conservative. Im a social conservative. I think weve seen that in order for the Republican Party to succeed, we need to be a big tent. We need to embrace American values. American values that have been present in our country, have been present in every small town, every small business, every family for centuries.
There are some who say the Republican Party should no longer stand for life, said Cruz. I dont agree with that. There are some who say the Republican Party should no longer stand for traditional marriage. I dont agree with them, either. I think we should continue to defend our shared values.
The reporter then asked, So it sounds like you disagree with Senator Paul?
Cruz said, Ill let him characterize his views. What I can tell you is my views are that we should continue to defend life and that we should continue to defend traditional marriage.
In an interview last week with Vocativ.com, Sen. Paul said, I think that the Republican Party, in order to get bigger, will have to agree to disagree on social issues. The Republican Party is not going to give up on having quite a few people who do believe in traditional marriage. But the Republican Party also has to find a place for young people and others who dont want to be festooned by those issues.

Ted Cruz or not ... yes, we should defend the life of the unborn and defend marriage as it was originally instituted.
I particularly admire Ted Cruz's habit of not trashing other conservative (or libertarian) Republicans. Here, he gives us a positive reason to support him and conspicuously refrains from negative comments about anyone else.
Just a few years back, who would have imagined that it would be highly controversial for a member of the so-called conservative party to speak up for “traditional marriage”???? It may linger a while, but this country is over.
Rand Paul needs to get off the rainbow brick road. Little governments don’t go shoving big, novel ideas down people’s throats.
Nobody is telling homosexuals today that they can’t shack up any way they wish and bugger on, as odious as that is. Any more than we are telling smokers they can’t smoke themselves to death or drinkers that they can’t pickle their livers. However they can’t graft such shack-ups (when they are same sex) into marriage expecting everybody else to honor it, and that’s it, doo-wop. Marriage is a created and biological truth.
Defend Life and Defend Traditional Marriage or go the way of the Whigs.
Gak, ansel I actually agreed with you. What is this world coming to
BUMP
Please end this stalking, and personal relationship you are carrying from thread to thread to thread.
I’m not even on this thread and you do it.
You too
Hell, even Hannity doesn’t even bring up the Right to Life anymore. Maybe he’s been listening to “the architect” Rove, his buddy, too much.
I totally agree with Cruz . . . we should put together a verbal strategy and include defending life at all stages as a critical and primary step.
Aren’t you THRILLED for the CAUSE?
Nah you just gotta be grumpy, and summon the “moder_ator” (showing your ignorance)
marriage refers only to that which God ordained as being a one man, one woman relationship.
can decent Americans please not fall into the trap of using terms that these ungodly perverts want to be used ?
controlling language is a tactical advantage, especially in the culture war.
The Value of Life. The Right to it, actually belongs to God. People are making it all about them and instead of everything they get nothing.
Burn the Heretic!!!!!
Faux is the word that should be used for the attempt to abuse it in homosexual relations.
Seriously, get a grip on yourself and take it down a notch, don’t carry your grudges from thread to thread and stalk people.
The country got a gospel start.
It will need a gospel boost and that may stave off some of the folly.
Grumpy, grumpy, grumpy!
