clearly a guaranteed losing formula for the GOP

For the elite who want their cheap Mexican (and other) labor to replace US citizens. If the message is more jobs, less handouts to minority US citizens, he can form a coalition that doesn't need the backstabber elite who would probably rather have hillary be president than have a constitutional conservative head the party.

I don't buy the whole libertarian platform but we don't stand a chance if we don't pull some of them in. In my experience, these young black libertarians sound more conservative than their white counterparts.

The sort of thing one of my young black libertarian friends post on twitter.

the market takes care of that (racism). Discrimination is generally bad for business; if people want 2 shrink their bottom line, let em.

If government forces you to serve customers against your will, is your property truly private? I don't think so.

Can't put my figure on why, but there is just something very attractive about a guy who's pro-life

we're $17 trillion in the red & still giving away billions in foreign aid, why?

The UN is an expensive waste of resources.

There's a special place in my heart for fellow Coolidge lovers.

That's a girl after my own heart if only I weren't 30 years older and kinda creepy.

Here’s the math:

http://www.gallup.com/poll/152021/Conservatives-Remain-Largest-Ideological-Group.aspx

From a 2012 gallup poll the breakdown is 40% conservatives, 35% moderates and 21% liberal. For the sake of argument lets assume the figures are approximately correct. Conservatives cannot retake the White House or congress with 40% of the vote. Slightly more than 10% of moderates “Must” be persuaded to vote with conservatives in order to advance a conservative agenda.

Is Rand looking in the wrong place? maybe...

Is Rand correct about the need to expand the conservative base? Absolutely...

Can conservatives win by attacking political allies for not being conservative enough? Probably not...

RE: From a 2012 gallup poll the breakdown is 40% conservatives, 35% moderates and 21% liberal.

When they ask questions using the terms — Conservative, moderate and Liberal, do they DEFINE their terms?

I’ve spoken to some young “conservatives” who tell me they support gay marriage and abortion.

How “conservative” are these responders?

Remember, going into these areas in terms of outreach has more of a payoff than might immediate appear.

That's certainly true. Like Rand Paul or not, I'm puzzled why conservatives think that this is a bad thing.

Paul is trying to get young folks and blacks to think a bit differently, to walk away from liberal group-think. This must make the Democratic establishment nervous. So bottom line: the enemy of my enemy is my friend.

I recall seeing a good video by a conservative presenter about how to attract young voters to the GOP. There were three main points.

Maybe it was Bill Whittle?

Anyone recall?

I think the usual argument is: why go into areas where we’re going to lose no matter what?

To which the response should be: because those areas are often part of larger areas, and there it is counter-productive to concede votes to the opposition.

There is a fine line between outreach and pandering, though, and it is dangerous to dance too near it.

“Can conservatives win by attacking political allies for not being conservative enough? Probably not...”

...while progressives continue to vote for whoever advances their cause of socialism.

I know there are many romney haters on here, and I did hold my nose and vote for him, but I was hoping he could have been our David. Faulted but in the end doing the right thing for the country. There were those who couldn’t vote for him because he wasn’t a perfect conservative. Now look where we are. At least he knew of the threat of Russia, and would have the stones to stand up to putin, unlike mom jeans zero. It’s a little harder to stand on principle when your country is lying in rubble at your feet. :( Just saying.

Because some conservatives think we should only be talking to ourselves.

I have a “conservative” daughter in college. She is a Constitutional and Fiscal Conservative, but a Libertarian in other areas. She is for individual choice in many areas (abortion, drugs, sexuality), but a strong believer in limited constitutional gov’t. I think Rand Paul would appear to this more libertarian group of young folks.

When the debates come, maybe next year? It will be clearer along with looking at his and the others voting record.

Enough already. Stop with the lectures.

The people to blame for Obama’s win are the GOPe. Period. They are the rotten crust of the pizza.

RP has some principled stands, as I’ve indicated often, he is involved with the National Pro-Life Alliance so it will depend on if he maintains his positions such as trying to get the fetuses constitutional protection by declaring them persons giving them personhood. Not sure how that would go with the Bezerkley crowd.

As has been stated, Obama isn’t the problem...The problem is an electorate that would vote for Obama.

re: She is for individual choice in many areas (abortion, drugs, sexuality), but a strong believer in limited constitutional gov’t. I think Rand Paul would appear to this more libertarian group of young folks

I have always suspected that many of the “conservatives” in the Gallup survey or FISCAL conservatives but SOCIAL liberals.

Hence, the Gallup survey presented above is not REALLY good news for those who are CONSISTENTLY conservative (both Fiscally and Socially ).

The elections will depend on what these “conservatives” value more — Fiscal conservatism or Social conservatism.

The talent of men like Obama, or even Hillary or many other Democrat candidate is to campaign as a Fiscally responsible candidate only to show their true colors later AFTER they are elected.

Obama is just the latest incarnation of this. He said in his campaign that our debt was unsustainable, he said he was against gay marriage.... LOOK AT WHAT HAPPENED SINCE...

More like nutballtopian. Open borders and fiscal conservatism is an impossibility.

Translated into English from an article in the Prague newspaper Prager Zeitung.

“The danger to America is not Barack Obama, but a citizenry capable of entrusting a man like him with the Presidency. It will be far easier to limit and undo the follies of an Obama presidency than to restore the necessary common sense and good judgment to a depraved electorate willing to have such a man for their president. The problem is much deeper and far more serious than Mr. Obama, who is a mere symptom of what ails America. Blaming the prince of the fools should not blind anyone to the vast confederacy of fools that made him their prince. The Republic can survive a Barack Obama, who is, after all, merely a fool. It is less likely to survive a multitude of fools, such as those who made him their president.”
