In the Weekly Standard, John Podhoretz identifies television shows like "Justified," "True Detective," "Breaking Bad," "Sons of Anarchy," and "The Walking Dead" as "Hollywood folk making mincemeat out of poor rural folk" and part of the "ongoing American culture war that should not go unremarked." Podheretz notes that "[e]ven Mad Mens Don Draper, the well-to-do man from Westchester, was damaged forever by being born to a hooker in rural Illinois and raised by a vicious farmer who beat him regularly."

To boldly go where no redneck has gone before!
Shame on you!.....Duck Dynasty does not resemble any of those distasteful shows, ie Honey Boo Boo, etc
Have you even seen Duck Dynasty?
Yes, Duck Dynasty is classier.
I would concur because it is so obvious right now.
It’s not a metaphor, it’s an allegory! I’m sure it wasn’t intended as such, but there it is. You want to include a black guy, but not too black, and he isn’t. And let’s be real, you’re selling to a white audience, so the protagonist is the white guy.
So the logic of the thing is inexorable, however oblique.
An allegory is a kind of metaphor.
If the intent of Duck Dynasty was to marginalize, they failed miserably.
Exactly.
Hollywood's in the business of turning a profit. Shows that lose money get cancelled. Shows that make money don't. When people in "flyover country" stop watching them, Hollywood will stop making them.
If there was a market for the feel-good, family friendly pablum of the 1950s, that's what Hollywood studios would be churning out.
There isn't. Not much of one, anyways. Viewers --many of whom reside in red states and vote for the guy with the (R) after his name, want to see white trash zombies, bikers, meth labs, sex and violence.
Give the people what they want - The Kinks
Well, it’s been said before, the world is a stage
A different performance with every age.
Open the history book to any old page
Bring on the lions and open the cage.
Give the people what they want
You gotta give the people what they want
The more they get, the more they need
And every time they get harder and harder to please
The Roman promoters really did things right.
They needed a show that would clearly excite.
The attendance was sparse so they put on a fight
Threw the Christians to the lions, sold out every night
Give the people what they want
You gotta give the people what they want
The more they get, the more they need
And every time they get harder and harder to please
Give ‘em lots of sex, perversion and rape
Give ‘em lots of violence, and plenty to hate
Give the people what they want
Give the people what they want
When Olswald shot Kennedy, he was insane
But still we watch the re-runs again and again
We all sit glued while the killer takes aim
“Hey Mom, there goes a piece of the president’s brain!”
Give the people what they want
You gotta give the people what they want
Blow out your brains, and do it right
Make sure it’s prime time and on a Saturday night.
You gotta give the people what they want
You gotta give the people what they want
Give the people what they want
Give the people what they want
Give the people what they want
Are you referring to the DD DVD’s we own?
Duck Dynasty’s on the list because A&E uses the popularity of the program in an effort to mock/stereotype red necks. It’s the, “See how back-woods they are?”.
Fortunately the Robinson’s are sharp business ppl. They’ve parlayed the shows popularity into a multimillion dollar franchise of it’s own despite Hollywood’s’ mockery.
> Redneck is more respectable than ghetto
Or Modern Family; one of the heavy homo family promoters that make it look fabulous. It’s its such a great thing why do LGBT couples always pick children of their same sex and why fo their kids end up gay later? Two guesses...
And you’re visiting this thread because?
Well yeah, homo ghetto
Something to keep it from getting bored during its nap
We haven’t had televised programming for over ten years. I’ve never seen those shows either.
I love it when a plan comes apart. :^)
lol
How old are you gator?
