It takes a certain kind of fool to fall for the economic death trap that is socialism after a 20th century filled with death, oppression, stagnation and eventual collapse at the hands of those who fought for Marx's flawed vision of human history and progress. Such a fool, while probably motivated by the noble ends of eradicating poverty and inequality, ultimately lacks the courage to see the world as it is and fight within the confines of reality to better it.
Rejecting a sober and honest appraisal of what works and what does not work given human history, he seeks to force the world to make sense, fighting blindly against the "contradictions of capitalism" by pushing for greater and greater control over the decisions of individuals in the often chaotic storm of transactions we call the market. At each turn he faces the harsh blowback of how people really respond to economic control.

It won’t be learned, because socialism is like the tricks of a con-man, with a significant exception: as opposed to a con-man plying his trade, socialists actually believe their own con. (Usually, but not always)
The continued scourge of socialism only works for two reasons: The arrogance of the socialist con-men who believe that “It hasn’t ever been done right before” and the sad fact that: the world will never run out of rubes.
Meaningful Freedom is for the competent doers who want to do things without govt intervention. When society loses the indepent minded doers there is not much hope
I agree
Chavez told the poor people that he would take the Rich’s MONEY and GIVE it to THEM!!! Sound FAMILIAR??? This is coming to America.
It is really easy to understand why if you look at these issues. Take for example Rush, and Sean, they have to always invent clever new words to describe socialists/socialism. Rush’s new phrase is “low information voter”, should read socialist, but he is so full of himself and is helping the GOP mislead voters with his clever but stupid terms.
As for Sean I am glad he lost his station in DC, he is still on here but I now can listen to Savage, who at least calls the fasicsts what they are, fascists.
Good analysis of socialism.
And unless you can condense this article to 147 characters or less, the vast majority of the sheeple who need this explanation, will never see it.
The main supporters did not "fall for it". They knew quite well that the system would eventually collapse. They figured that, until it DID collapse, they would enjoy power and wealth beyond what they would have earned in a free market economy.
The main supporters of socialism are the elites (who want power) and the underclass (who want to loot the property of the productive).
How can people be so blind? Because the defenders of socialism always insist it didn’t work because (1) the right people weren’t in charge, but THIS TIME they will be, and (2) not enough money was thrown at the problems that arose.
