Read this in another article and it makes no sense whatsoever:

But park officials say he was alone Saturday morning near the El Tovar Lodge when he fell about 350 feet from a rim near the lodge.

“He wasn’t trying to shoot a photograph or anything like that,” his sister-in-law Suzy Naughalty said Tuesday by telephone. “It was just a freakish accident.”

The stone wall along the rim by the El Tovar is only abot knee high. Very easy to fall if your not paying attention. The top of the wall is about 2 feet wide. Most who slip just end up sitting on the wall with really big eyes.

On average, less than 2 people per year die at the canyon.
