Freud, the atheist, gets blamed for a lot.
I’m not sure Freud deserves all the credit for the chaos that is attributed to him. He created a set of atheistic parables (calling on Greek polytheisic mythology, ironically) for various common issues of human psychosexual maturation. To actually declare religious faith wrong was probably beyond Freud’s power. Ironically, the loss of religious faith made the whole issue of maturity less and less relevant. It’s God who wanted men to be mature. Now we have gaggles of immature men and nobody cares. They’re busy with bread and circuses.
And, I’d chide the church a bit for not having a better answer to Freud’s methods than catcalls. Christ is the Healer, isn’t He? Can’t heaven do things any better than the world (or hell) can? If Freud outstripped the church, maybe the church was too squeamish to realize the power of its “religion.”
...”An Expose of the Men Responsible for the Decline and Fall of Western Civilization...Sigmund Freud, the most destructive man in human history - destroyed the sense of individual conscience and guilt which has placed man on the road back to the jungle”.....
He did, indeed, form and perpetuate incredible false psychological theories which resulted in tragedy for some from false treatments. Women, who were probably simply suffering from common hormonal anxieties or other disorders, were common victims of Freud. Freud gathered great power onto himself and became very nasty to anyone who would question his theories. At one point, he used cocaine and promoted it for his patients. He is a fascinating study of how a charismatic charlatan took over the rational thought processes of a very important facet of medicine and, literally, the entire civilized world.
