A former security chief for El Al believes that the disappearance of Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 points directly to Iran.
Isaac Yeffet, who served as head of global security for Israels national carrier in the 1980s and now works as an aviation security consultant in New Jersey, said investigators were correct in honing in on the two fake-passport carrying Iranian passengers on the doomed flight, and they have wasted valuable time by exploring other leads.
What happened to this aircraft, nobody knows. My guess is based upon the stolen passports, and I believe Iran was involved, he said. They hijacked the aircraft and they landed it in a place that nobody can see or find it.
In the immediate aftermath of the aircrafts disappearance, which occurred last week during a standard night flight from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing, Malaysian officials and the media were fixated on the story of two Iranians who had made it onto the plane with stolen passports. As the days wore on and the investigation uncovered new and confusing details, with officials admitting that the plane could have traveled for as long as seven hours without radio contact, and that its potential location could be anywhere from northern Kyrgyzstan to the southern Indian ocean, attention has shifted to the pilots and to far-flung conspiracy theories. This is a misstep, said Yeffet, and one that would not have happened in Israel.
This would never have happened on an Israeli plane, says Yeffet. An El Al aircraft was hijacked for the first and last time in 1968. Since then, there has not been a single flight where security did not check every single name.
However, it would have taken more than just a pair of Iranians with forged documents, Yeffet said, to pull off such an astonishing crime. I cant believe for a second that if these people planned to hijack the aircraft, it was just them, he said. But based upon the tried-and-true Israeli intelligence strategy of profiling, the pilots, he said, are unlikely suspects.
We are talking about a captain who is 53 years old, who has worked for Malaysia Airlines for 30 years, and suddenly he became a terrorist? He wanted to commit suicide? If he committed suicide, where is the debris?
Adding that the captain in question, Zaharie Ahmad Shah, was known to be happily married and comfortably well-off, Yeffet said the profile simply does not fit. From the United States to China to Japan, everybody is searching for this aircraft or piece of it. And there is no sign. So in my opinion, the aircraft was hijacked. And it was an excellent plan from the terrorists, to land in a place where they can hide the plane and no one can find it.
Lt. Col. (Res) Eran Ramot, an IDF fighter pilot and the head of aviation research at Israels Fisher Institute for Air and Space Strategic Studies, however, drew other conclusions.
It would be very complicated [for someone other than the pilot to have flown the plane], Ramot said, based on the stunning revelations that the flight not only made a total U-turn from its planned route but also dipped in between radar points for hours and had all of its tracking systems manually turned off. It takes somebody that knows how to operate an airplane like this.
Like Yeffet, Ramot believes the plane was being intentionally flown to a secret location, and he went as far as to say he is holding out hope that the 239 passengers and crew who were on board are still alive.
We dont know any better yet, he said. One of my theories is that the airplane landed in Bangladesh. It could reach there, its very close to Afghanistan. It could have landed on airstrip there, and everybody on board is still alive. It could be done.
Asked what would have happened if the plane which went undetected for hours as it blipped across Malaysian radars had entered Israeli airspace, Ramot said, It would not go unnoticed, thats for sure. Action would have been carried out, the least of which would have been an interception to escort it.
That doesnt mean that the Malaysian military wasnt paying attention, he added. Its simply that in Israel, the margin for taking chances is significantly reduced.
Its a matter of atmosphere, he said. Here, every blip on the screen is suspicious because thats the way we live. Thats our daily program. I cant imagine they pay as much attention, but if a blip runs wide or runs strange, I would expect them to notice.
Pini Schiff, one of Israels top aviation security experts, said that if there is any comfort that Israelis can take from the story of MH 370, which is proving to be one of the most confounding aviation disasters of all time, it is that it could never happen to a plane flying out of Ben-Gurion International Airport.
It simply wouldnt happen at Ben Gurion, he said. The level of security at Ben Gurion and on all El Al planes is so high, there is nothing more they could do Nations are not spending billions of dollars the way the Israeli government is protecting Israeli aviation, because the threat against Israeli aviation is so high. What we are doing in Ben Gurion is an operation that is not being done in any other airport in the world. Not in the United States, not in Britain, not in Germany, not anywhere.
Like his colleagues, Schiff said that his guess is as good as anyones as to the fate of MH 370, but he also believes theres a good possibility that it has been brought down, intact, on a hidden runway in some far-flung corner of the world.
It will be found. It may take a month or a year, but eventually, it will be found, he said. This aircraft didnt vanish. It exists somewhere in the world, and it will be found, probably in one piece.
True, I just used perpendicular as the extreme nosedive to differentiate from it pancaking in.
I asked a similar question and got an answer from another freeper... I'll find it and be back in a sec...
I agree with your friend that this plane is a very good delivery system. I am watching the actions of the high ranking members in DC. If patterns change and people start avoiding DC we have a real threat.
What about having this fact added yo this story.
WASHINGTON First lady Michelle Obama will travel to China this month with her daughters, Malia and Sasha, and her mother, Marian Robinson, for a trip built on the theme of education, her office announced Monday.
The March 19-26 trip will include a visit with her Chinese counterpart, Peng Liyuan, who is a popular folk singer and the second wife of Chinese President Xi Jinping.
The trip will be Michelle Obamas first to China. Her itinerary includes stops in the Chinese capital, Beijing, on March 20-23; Xian on March 24; and Chengdu on March 25-26.

Hypoxia (oxygen starvation) will lead first to unconsciousness then without oxygen, cardiac arrest and death is probably 2-3 minutes after the cabin atmosphere equals the 45,000 pressure.
Essentially its a suffocation death. At least ya pass out first. You are trying to breathe, but its not doing any good.
Cabin heat is controlled separately from cockpit heat. The flight crew controls it from the flight deck. Same for the cargo hold. Cargo has been ruined and pets killed by crews who forget to maintain pressure and temp in the cargo hold.
Freezing would take a bit longer.

Another blueflag reply:
The passenger compartment air masks are not actually pressurized. They do enrich the O2 in the mask, but do not overcome the lack of cabin pressure. Your lungs actually do not suck in air, rather your shifting diaphragm allows atmospheric pressure to force air into your lungs. In the actual physics of gases, there is only pressure, not suck.
Whats the point? At 45,000 feet, the atmosphere is too thin to force enough air into your lungs, even enriched with 02 in the mask, to keep a human alive. You must have a pressurized mask that covers your mouth and nose, and has sufficient differential pressure and PUSHES air into your lungs. The flight crew up front have that.
Rising to 45,000 feet, depressuring the plane? Effective way to kill everyone not in the flight deck with a mask.
FWIW, you can also freeze em to death in the back as well. Its often 60 degrees below zero outside at that altitude. Just sayin
“Why do they need this plane to do that mission?
Dont all the arab airlines have dozens of them?”
That’s exactly what I was about to say.
China is one of Iran’s best allies and oil buyer. Notably they agree on one thing, they hate the petro-dollar. Iran will sell oil in anything but the US dollar (preferably gold) and China is happy to buy it all on those terms.
Who Iran be involved in a plot to hijack a plane when 2/3rds of the passengers are Chinese?
No way.
...not unless they really think the Madhi’s return is eminent. (ie: the twelfth imam is coming out of the cave)
“If anyone wanted to steal a plane then why not steal a FedEx or UPS cargo plane? They are probably a lot easier to steal than a commercial airliner and no passengers to deal with.”
Great point, but I guess it’s possible that a particular passenger, or passengers, was/were the target all along?
And of course, no elections in November...
The other day this was discussed but there was too many folks that could not understand the limitation of those masks, so I do what I usually do, I just sit back and lurk and let them duke it out like a birther thread.
Now what actually worries me is whoever took this, has it is capable of spoofing it enough to completely fool the Russians into thinking its a US military jet “disguised” as a civilian just so it can nuke them?
The ROP could have some goal of making the US and Russian start nuking each other, just a loose theory.
With millions flying everyday in the US, security wait times would not be minutes or hours, but days ...
I think he's overlooking the fact that there are the entire countries of India and Pakistan between Bangladesh and Afghanistan. I wouldn't call that "very close". That's like saying, "I think he flew the plane to Vancouver, Canada. It's very close to Cuba."
Further: does Iran have any 777s in its airline fleet? If not, perhaps it was taken to steal the communications tech, which after research could be hacked to bad effect on other 777s - after all, Iran is credited with taking control of one of the US’s most advanced stealth drones. Seems like there ought to be easier ways to do this, but then, who knows what Iran might be thinking.
As for a likely target, after Israel, and before the US, Iran has said it intends to destroy the Vatican ...
The Madhi will only return with the scent of the blood of millions ... Iran’s Twelver leadership has long said they will encourage that return sooner than later.
Iran - no way to deliver a nuke...
Couldn’t the Iranians just take a jet from one of their airports while it sat overnight?
Answer: We'd take Iran back to the middle ages.
Question: What would happen if a small band of terrorists hit New York or Israel and killed millions of citizens??
Answer: Obama would be picking cards with names of terrorists on them for assassination. That's why any State involvement would stay hidden.
Thanks Jack Hydrazine.
