I've never been able to hit a cell tower and get a call through at 35,000 feet (or even at 20,000) when operating at speed. They must have much better phones in Malaysian than I do

No reason to take out another international flight.
The reason is to trail the other jet and look like one blip on the radar screen.

Gold...who said there was gold on that plane? That’s a motive as strong as terrorism, if there is a lot of it.

The plane has run out of gas by now...a week later, so why don’t we have a crash site?

..and don’t forget the ‘unknown’ passenger allowed as a ride along in the jump seat who isn’t on the flight manifest. I think his name was Mohammed Osama Al Zarqawi. /s

I've received texts at 35,000 when I left my phone not in airplane mode.
Directly over Salt Lake City, DEN-SMF.

It’s just one of the theories. But moving heavy gold, like moving pallets of heroin, has a lot of players who talk about what they do in their day job.

No doubt. I am former military reserve and info was always on ‘a need to know’ basis, but now even the evening news tells what terrorists would want to know and can use against us, it’s scary for our soldiers.

Had not heard nor read there was, what is called a "jumpseater" on board. And in the cockpit. Can you give a link to that. It is an interesting piece of information.

They prolly landed someplace. The ELTs didn’t go off, as would be the case in the event of a crash.

I thought about Dans scenario, and it could be possible, IMO, that they could have been looking for a Singapore Airlines, AirIndia or Qantas flight leaving that area (or that corridor) towards the US West Coast - or London - in order to take it out in mid-flight. Possible?
If I were going to ram another airliner, I think I'd fly towards congested airspace rather than to one of the most remote places on the globe.

With regard to collision avoidance systems, I believe they are dependent on each airliner having their transponders on.

“However, there are a few problems with it, just off the top of my head.”
Not too mention the DOZENS of available targets, at that time, on the same very busy airway they were on.

Just speculating, but I see four seats here and it's possible there was a ride along not on the flight manifest. Airlines will sometimes allow employees to ride along. Something to consider..

May not be on “manifest” but required to be on what is called “Gen Dec” General Declarations. Specially going to a foreign country, specially going to China. They not very nice if paperwork not in proper order.
