For the past 80+ years, the Welfare State has sapped the American independent spirit and self-sufficiency. We are at the point where kids graduate from high school (or drop out) and immediately start trying to figure out how to start collecting a government check. Any little problem turns into a reason to get a disability check from Uncle Sam. Pretty much anyone can get food stamps and a free cell phone. And in each generation, it gets worse. There is no more pride in hard work and no more shame in taking Welfare. At some point, America is going to wake up and realize that the whole country has joined the moochers and there is no one left to work to pay for them. The last productive person will have turned off the lights and left for China, Russia or some country that is less Socialistic than the USA.

Well, require them to get licenses that can be obtained only after getting PhD.s or through government-regulated apprenticeships under welfare experts with PhD.s. Make them pay fees and navigate their way through a maze of regulations before being allowed to get free food. Then they can be called mighty, productive taxpayers: makers! They'll be just like their bureaucratic peers!

Same for them--PhD.s in disability, licenses, fees, regulations,...

"And in each generation, it gets worse. There is no more pride in hard work and no more shame in taking Welfare."

Wow. I haven't seen anyone do real work for decades except for me, a few ranchers and a few foreigners. Most people sit in offices, cruise around aimlessly, plot and scheme and so forth. It's a wonder that men with shovels in their hands aren't routinely arrested and imprisoned for not having PhD.s and licenses. We already have to pay extortionate fees and navigate through mazes of regulations.

We're pretty near there except for folks in the field for energy companies, the few remaining manufacturing shops, contracting combine operators for global agriculture corporations and the like. We need more licenses, regulations, fees and property-value-obsessed, busybody NIMBYs to stop them, eh?

"The last productive person will have turned off the lights and left for China, Russia or some country that is less Socialistic than the USA."

...or stayed here and become much more self-sufficient and free from paying the worst of the parasites. It is becoming more difficult for common Americans to leave the country. Before long, leaving will probably be illegal except for the uppermost of VIPs, like the USSR. Or maybe a degree, a license, a fee of a million dollars and thorough knowledge of a few thousand regulations will be required of anyone wanting to visit another country.

Redact contracting combine operators. I haven’t seen any heavy equipment operator dismount to dig or lift anything since doing it myself over 10 years back.
