I actually think a lot of the problem is with the anti-gun rhetoric liberals are so fond of. Their over-the-top attempts to instill panic over such innocuous items as drawings of guns, or gun-shaped Pop Tarts could very well condition people to panic whenever they see anything gun-like. Some of these conditioned people later want to become policemen—and what do policemen do when they panic? They shoot!
This particular incident hits close to home. When I was a child, we lived for a while in the neighborhood where young Andy Lopez was shot. I walked and rode my bike all over that neighborhood, including that intersection. And I played with water-guns in that neighborhood.
