Agreed, the main female hero character is in a romantic delimma between two male suitors.

The main female villain doesn't have a suitor, but that's because she's locked herself away most of the movie because she fears her powers will hurt people.

The curse of that power is a theme in the Hans Christian Andersen original story “The Snow Queen,” of which this is a loose paraphrase.

In real life we see folks that seem to get alienation reactions from others in spite of their utmost efforts. There are “snow queens” and “snow kings.” This might be symbolic of that. In Christian theology we know of original sin, and that’s one way it can manifest. Gladly, God can help such problems through His love.
