I did roving maintenance in the black Milwaukee slums, for a while, I wouldn’t risk carrying a gun at the time (old laws), but I did keep one hidden in my tool box.

In general it was nerve wracking to have a truck full of tools down on the street and be walking those stairs with tools and leaving tools inside apartments as you went to get more.

Being observed or approached by various interested parties and small groups, at almost every stage.

I lived in the Milwaukee area until 1987 and kept a boat there. One night I had to do some work on it and carried a loaded .357 in my tool box, law or no law. Fortunately, I did not have to use it in anger and had no problems.
