Russia's move into part of Ukraine has caused genuine unease in neighbouring countries like Poland and the three Baltic states and a sense that they also are under threat.
Poland's leaders have played down the danger, repeatedly reassuring the public.
During an event to celebrate the 15th anniversary of Poland joining Nato on Monday, Prime Minister Donald Tusk said he saw no direct threat to his country, a view echoed by Poland's President Bronislaw Komorowski.
But there is a widespread sense of insecurity in Poland. In an opinion poll last week, 59% of respondents believed Russia's foreign policy presented a threat to Poland's security.

Chuckle all you want, Laughing Girl.
Having an entire nation mobilize for war with one single person a serious matter.
I'd get your affairs in order.

Scuffles with intrusive neighbors are nothing new with Poland. It wins some and it loses some, yet Poland stays Poland.

How’d you do in European history in school, genius?
To: HiTech RedNeck
Yet, this is the first time they have mobilized their entire war machine against ONE PERSON.

Last time Poland won a war was in ... 1645.

So you are saying you -- a single person -- can defeat the combined forces and modern tactics of an entire nation.
You are so screwed.

The 1600s weren’t that long ago and yeah, Poland trounced Russia.
Modern commerce has provided an incentive for a little more clam (I mean calm). Russia’s not as rabid as Islam but it’s still a grouchy old Bear.

I don’t know how much they’ve simmered down though. I don’t think they were very happy during the height of the Soviet Union. The people not in the party surely weren’t.
I think some leadership there is seeking glory, and expansion is the only way they know how.

Unlike the Crimea, there are no easily-exploitable natural gas fields in Poland. They rely on their own coal and Russian gas.
Russia is lacking the economic liberties and freedoms in which domestic industries thrive. It’s an oligarchy. And like most dictatorships it is dependent upon exporting natural resources. It needs to acquire and export resources and, if possible, influence the market for the capital to run the government.

China figured out that it was more glorious to sit where they were and get rich.
And if the Bear gets half a clue, its oil wealth will do the same for it. But old feelings die hard.

I sure wouldn't want to be the sole person that the entire armed forces of Poland just declared war on.
I sure wouldn't want to be Marguerite right now.
She is so screwed.

The only problem Poland had was fielding all those pianos in the military band to play rousing Chopin military marches.
(Obligatory Poland joke)
