You’ve got to feel bad for folks who go through life so distrustful and suspicious of their fellow citizens that they believe people are always trying to get away with something, trying to game the system. Like those millions of jobless workers who would rather lay back and collect $300 or so a week in unemployment insurance (UI) benefits than go out and try to find a job that pays a decent wage and gives them a chance to support a family, keep a roof over their heads and climb a step or two up the ladder.
Yep, you’ve got to feel bad for Republican senators. You see, that must be the way they feel about the nation’s 3.8 million long-term jobless workers.

I’ve asked different people I worked with about this over 25 years. I’ve always heard the same response: I’ll take the UI check because it’s offered. Basically, if they’re giving away free money, I’ll take it.
I can’t remember anyone who flat out said how I feel.
Which is, I won’t ever take UI. I’ll just get on with life and work at something else.
I’ve taken time off between jobs even. But never UI. I went to check it out once when I was young, had first started programming. The minute I found out that I had to go on I think it was 3 interviews per week, I just walked out and started looking for a job. I knew that there was no way I was not going to get a job in a few weeks if I went on 3 interviews a week. This was back in the Reagan years.
After that I just realized how goofy it was. To sit wasting your time shuffling around that UI office, pretending to look for work.
Who didn’t see this coming. The Republicans walked right into this. Not a single democrat objected to benefits cut, but Pelosi blamed Republicans as soon as it was passed.
The right way to cut employment is to create jobs. And to do that we need to raise the import tariffs and bring our industries back from overseas.
The democrats paint the Republicans as heartless money grubbing people. And our leadership poses for the paint job.
Frankly, I agree with the democrats. To cut unemployment benefits when unemployment is 24% (shadowstats.com) IS heartless. And worse, the only Republican with a decent plan to restore jobs is TRUMP. (But I know the cut passed was bipartisan. They’re all heartless b*st*rds, but Republicans are stupid about it.)
Rubio recently claimed to have a plan, but I didn’t see much more than hope and change. I saw very little detailed actions in the news reports. Oh and by the way, there’ll be a lot more immigrants to take the jobs that still exist.
1) In most states, or at least in TN, you don't shuffle around a UI office looking for a job. You don't have to go into a UI office at all, except to sign up. You look for a job in your own way. If you need help, the UI office can provide leads, internet terminals, etc.
2) I'm glad you can get a job in a few weeks. But a lot of people can't. It depends on your skill set. And a lot of times, the higher up you've been, the longer and harder it is to find a job that uses your skillset. UI benefits are there to help give you time to find a job that matches your skillset. And in that way, it's good for the economy.
3) You've paid for UI benefits. So nobody should be ashamed to take them. That doesn't mean they should abuse then. But if you're legitimately unemployed, then that's a benefit you've paid for.
When you wreck your car, do you take the same attitude? Why file a claim for insurance I've paid for, when I can go buy another car in a couple of days? No, you don't. You might buy another car, but you still file to get the benefits you paid for.
I own my car outright and thus only carry liability.
if i get into an accident and it’s my fault, i pay cash out of pocket. I buy old mercedes, so it’s cost effective. Someday when we get America fixed, we can go back to having many smaller auto companies, get rid of the monopoly of publicly-held companies, and have privately-held companies making cars, and then we’ll have some good American cars to buy. It is completely possible to manufacture in America; it’s being done every day. We just have monopolies (well, technically oligopolies) in our way.
It is an adjustment to Americans’ current way of thinking, to no make use of UI.
My oh my do you feel good when you reject the payments.
a) look for job b) rely on savings c) rely on family d) rely on church charity
It is a huge adjustment for people to a) get completely out of debt b) cut spending down to pauper level c) shove all that unspent cash into bank, then into direct investment of small business and property. I had to get busted down to pauper level to realize that I did not NEED so much cr@p that I wasted money on.
It’s been done that way for thousands of years, but since our Euro-American-UK elites started the welfare state a couple centuries ago, few can remember how things are supposed to work.
i’m still working at getting where i want to be; few are where they should be.
as long as we know where we really should be and keep workign on getting there.

Obama has been president for 5 years now. Democrats have controlled the House between ‘06 to ‘10 and the Senate since ‘06. The democrats RULED with a supermajority from 2009 to 2011. They accomplished the biggest government take over of private industry ever. YET, they still claim it is all the republican’s fault. BOO HOO. To me, it sounds like they are admitting the only ones who can solve problems, or at least not make such big ones, are republicans. If I have an employee that cries and moans all day because someone isn’t helping ‘him’ do ‘his’ job than I really don’t need that employee if the other guy can do it.
