Dr. Ben Carson at CPAC: "I will continue to defy the P.C. police" [Marriage]

At CPAC this past weekend, Dr. Ben Carson gave a rousing speech to those in attendance in which he defiantly declared his support for marriage despite the "P.C. police" who he says try to silence that point of view. Here's a snippet of what he had to say [emphasis added]:

As you know, I am not a fan of political correctness; I hate political correctness. I will continue ... [applause] I will continue to defy the P.C. police [cheers] who have tried in many cases to shut me up. You know, I actually find them pretty amusing. [Laughter] You know? I mean, I still believe that marriage is between a man and a woman. [Cheers and applause].

Of course, gay people should have the same rights as everyone else, but they don't get extra rights: they don't get to redefine marriage.

I was saddened to hear Carson's rather ambiguous statements regarding marriage. He seemed to want, like many libertarian types, to protect the name only, and allow the substance to be extended to same-sex couples in another form. This is an untenable position. Marriage by another name will STILL impose its tyrannical demands on everyone.

Too late for the IF part; it has crumbled. Why is it that the brilliant black man Dr. Carson has ZERO chance of attaining elective office in today's USA while fools like Obama thrive no matter what they do? The reason is simple: the nation has already crumbled. The only question is who gets to pick up the pieces.

I don’t like the civil unions solution because it doesn’t work. If we were to offer civil unions, they would claim that this is an implicit admission that the homos are guaranteed to the rights that come with marriages. Their next step would be to claim (usually in court or in debate) that civil unions are “separate-but-equal.”

I don’t trust our opponents’ willingness to debate in good faith. They have one end goal, and civil unions are a temporary form of appeasement.
