I used to drive for Trailways. We wore uniforms very similar to pilots. It was amazing how handsome, charming and sexy I was until I told the ladies my occupation.

I guess this it beats Chinese pilots flying straight into a break-wall on a clear near perfect weather day in SF.

Me too. I was flying biz class on a Singapore Airlines flight from Tokyo to LA in the late 90’s, and a rock star was in the cockpit for both takeoff and landing. The upper cabin on the 747 was visibly concerned when the guy, complete with dreadlocks, was escorted up from first class.

It would also explain why the transponder was switched off.Just wondering: Is there a legitimate reason why the transponder of a commercial airliner is allowed (has the capability) to be shut off?

He wouldn’t talk with his mouth full, so we’d likely never know.

Co-pilot was 27 years old.
Age & inexperience do matter. Not too many people have noticed, but when the airline claimed that the pilots in the cockpit had "20,000" hours of experience, the MENSA media did not bother to clarify.
The Captain, 18,000 hours.
The First Officer (co-pilot) 2000.
Say wut?

We went across Indonesia in the early ‘80s on Merpati, an Indonesian airline. They left the cockpit door open the entire time. At one point the sun was in their eyes and they taped newspaper over the window (front) so it wouldn’t bother them. I imagine the airplane was on autopilot. At another point they invited all the children to come up and see the cockpit, sit in the pilots’ seats, and we actually felt the plane move up and down as we saw a kid’s hand moving something up there. Our son was 9, and in my memory we only let him see inside (will have to ask him if he remembers). We had many adventures on that trip along with other times!
