How would amnesty create cheap labor? Aren’t they getting cheap labor by hiring illegals? No minimum wage, no social security, no benefit costs. Amnesty, as I understand it, would instantly create a giant pool of unskilled workers who would get $7.25 per hour or more....plus any government mandated benefits.

Precisely. That’s why it’s not only “amnesty”; it’s open borders to keep the flow of defenseless but willing cheap labor. The “amnesty” is just a step to make instant Democrat voters.

The term amnesty presupposes that that which is illegal will remain so and be punished in the future. That’s not what’s going on.

it’s not just amnesty they want but open borders
also if this bunch of illegals are allowed to become legal they will be eligible to bring in their extended families.

If you look at immigration reform as being only about amnesty, you are missing the boat.

Immigration reform is also about guest workers.

A foreign worker under the H2A temp ag worker visa will cost agribusiness a lot less than a domestic worker or an illegal masquerading as a domestic worker.

The problem is that the H2A has certain requirements that make it very difficult for agribusiness to use.
Advertising requirements
Negotiating a fixed date contract with the Labor Dept
The 50% rule
The three quarter rule

So if in the course of immigration reform, they reform the H2A ag worker visa to soften or eliminate these requirements it makes it better for those who want to hire these guest workers.
