Hoping to isolate Russia, US woos China on Ukraine

The Obama administration is stepping up its attempts to court China’s support for isolating Russia over its military intervention in Ukraine.

With official comments from China appearing studiously neutral since the Ukraine crisis began, President Barack Obama spoke to Chinese President Xi Jinping late Sunday in a bid to get Beijing off the fence.

The call was their first known conversation since Russian forces took control of Ukraine’s pro-Moscow Crimea region. It came amid signals that Russian President Vladimir Putin was hardening his position on Crimea, which is due to vote on joining Russia in a referendum this weekend that the U.S. and its allies have vowed not to recognize.

In making his case, Obama appealed to China’s well-known and vehement opposition to outside intervention in other nations’ domestic affairs, according to a White House statement.

Nixon he ain’t. China enjoys its relationship with Russia. Both excuse the other’s seizure of territory.

I wouldn’t call what Nixon did a diplomatic success either. All he did was crown the new champion of world communism.

In a multi polar world (US, EU, China, India, Russia, Brazil) the first two powers fight will lose. The US can learn from China. When the US petitioned the UN to invade Iraq for the second time, Russia protested vehemently, but China response was muted. She declared that peace was preferred over invasion and all parties should seek a political solution. The US thought China did not care about Iraq, in reality she set a political tone so the US would leap into Iraq because China figure it would become a quagmire for the US. It turned out to be true. IED, ROE and repeated deployments sapped the US forces, and treasury. China is repeating the strategy today. Let the US and Russia fight. If Russia loses she would be forced to be more dependent on China for cash. If Russia wins, the US is weakened and China is in a much better position to expand her claims in Asia. Do not forget, China and Russia are natural enemies. Today they need each other to balance against US dominance. If US is diminished, both will re align themselves. Right now China chose the “monkey on the rock watching two lions fight” approach to world conflict.

It’s not like Sun Tzu’s “Art Of War” is out of print. They’ve been using it against the USA for decades, especially the bit about breaking your enemy’s resistance without fighting.

Learning Maoism from China is what the politicians in DC decided to study instead.

Is this SOB really that stupid to believe that China will listen to his worthless drivel? This man child has got to be the biggest dumb M EFFER ever to hold any office in the Noor Loch, and that is saying a lot, since there are tons of dumb asses there.

"...the Soviets might have lasted longer had relations with China not taken a turn for the worse"

China would have provided USSR enough grain, took care of OPEC which was putting a "crimp" on the Soviet Caspian industry (Which the Soviets still could not figure out how to extract sufficiently), subsidized the loses caused by Chernobyl, and solved the enigma of Pershing II weapons that had a 6 minute trip to Moscow/targeted Soviet military outposts? My, a weak China, without access to US markets, would of been generous neighbor.

I would take a self-imploding/limping Soviet Empire over subsidizing, trading, and resurrecting a "sleeping "giant" dragon" any day.
