Then just keep Daylight Savings Time permanent. Forget about Standard Time.

That will keep more daylight at the end of the day, where we need it. Dark morning, we can deal with.

They tried year-round daylight savings time back in 1974, at the height of the Arab oil embargo. The dark mornings proved problematic, particularly when a school bus ran over some kids at a bus stop, an accident blamed, at least in part, on the darkness.
