Sr. was a heavy drinker back in the day and some in the community used to make sure he got home or into a hotel room in one piece. Son Bill Jr. said in article:

Ford Sr. similarly managed to beat a problem with alcohol: After years of hard drinking, he just stopped one day in 1965.

His son once told the Detroit Free Press that he doesn’t remember his father’s drinking or the Alcoholics Anonymous meetings held at the family mansion.

That's how I quit. I was a case per day drinker and just made a decision and toughed it out. Its been a decade since I quit. I think a fair number of people quit that way.
