Those who fought in the Revolutionary War were fighting for political freedom from governmental tyranny not for "conservatism".
The Constitution is a political document designed to protect our God-given lives and freedom from governmental tyranny. It creates the rule of law instead of the rule of man in America. It is pointed not at the individual, but at government, delegating what government is allowed to do, the rest being up to the states and the people.
Our Founders in their wisdom deliberately kept our political framework separated from moral or spiritual or "conservative" issues. Although most were quite devout Christians, they knew that a healthy society thrives in an atmosphere free of politically forcing moral or spiritual ideologies on others as a rule of law.
So politically, our country is about one main thing: freedom from government tyranny, encroachment, and overreach. The political battle we are in now is about that one main thing: freedom from governmental tyranny. The Leftists love to see the Right tangled up in all these politically peripheral issues and have and will do everything they can to help divide the cause for freedom. So far they seem to be succeeding.
The moral and spiritual battle is another battle on another front. My guess is you and I (and many here and elsewhere) have very similar personal and spiritual values. But politics and government is not the CAUSE of moral and spiritual health, it is the effect. Our founders knew that which is why the Constitution is a political document not a moral or spiritual one. They knew the best they could do was give us a framework of political freedom which they could only hope would be perpetuated by individuals who chose "good manners and religion."
If/when you decide to tell me what you think "conservatism" is, I'm sure it will be about what you believe are the right morals and values for yourself and everyone else. Nothing wrong with that, I do the same thing. But that's a battle on a different front. Personally, I believe it will take God's sovereign hand of Providence once again (as it always has) to cause a mass change in the hearts and minds of the American People. But that is a battle on a different front and must be waged at the same time we wage war on the rogue and dangerous federal government. If we don't win the war for freedom, we'll have little choice about how the rest will go.
You are one of those guys who just likes to hear himself speak and doesn’t really care what the point is.
Clarity escapes you. It does seem that you feel “hate” easily, so you assume others “hate”, and that you want to allow gays in the military, gay marriage in the military and for federal employees, and abortion on military bases, and want the left to decide all laws in regards to such issues and immigration, etc, things that you seem to want conservative politics to quit resisting or opposing.
In your world, someone can’t oppose gay marriage, and homosexuals for the military for logical reasons, but only as a hang up of Christianity, and that the Americans of 1790 would be telling us to let the left decide those issues by electing politicians who support them, while the rest of us ignore, ore don’t care, and only vote on money issues.
