La. Police Claim Man Shot And Killed Himself While Handcuffed I'm not saying that this piece of trash probably didn't need killing, but I'm wondering:
Isn't it standard procedure to "pat down" a suspect for weapons before you handcuff them and put them in the back of a patrol car? If not, we need to re-write the scripts of every cop show that has ever been on TV.

Isn't it standard procedure to "pat down" a suspect for weapons before you handcuff them and put them in the back of a patrol car? If not, we need to re-write the scripts of every cop show that has ever been on TV. It is standard procedure, but some searches are more thorough than others, which is why cops are occasionally killed by suspects with guns they failed to find. A Mexican illegal was executed recently for just such a crime. I think it's a mix of respect for personal privacy and not wanting to probe too closely at the potentially stinky bits of a suspect's anatomy.
