I started using SDD once I could get 250gb for $200 or less. Its better to have your OS and Apps on SDD than on traditional HDD which I still use for storage. The speed just make it worth it

Apple's technology combines the best of both types of storage, it starts putting files on the SSD, and when it runs out of space it puts the remaining files on a slower but less expensive HDD. The operating system dynamically manages which files go on which using a most recently used algorithm. All of this is transparent to the user.
